Chelsea given 35 per cent chance of signing as Tuchel insists on top target

Niklas Sule remains a top target for Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea and there is a 35 per cent chance that Bayern Munich will sell him, a report claims.

It will be an important summer at Stamford Bridge and the first that Tuchel has overseen. After winning the Champions League, they are now keen to kick on domestically. Having worked with the squad for a few months, Tuchel now knows where he wants them to improve.

One player he is particularly keen on is Sule. The centre-back is approaching the final 12 months of his contract with Bayern, who do not yet know whether to keep him.

Sule only started 16 games in the 2020-21 Bundesliga as other players took centre stage. At the age of 25, Bayern are concerned he has not progressed as they thought he would when signing him in 2017.

Therefore, there has been little progress over renewal talks – although there could yet be a change of plan. If not and Sule is sold, Chelsea will be prime suitors.

According to Bild (via Sport Witness) there is a 35 per cent chance that Bayern sell Sule this summer. They reiterate Chelsea’s interest, with Tuchel being a key factor behind it.

The German coach is an admirer of his compatriot and wants to bring him to the Premier League. It is not yet clear how much that operation might cost, but the Blues will be exploring it. Previous reports have suggested a figure in the region of £30m.

Chelsea are looking for an extra defender despite Thiago Silva closing in on committing for another season. They want a younger successor to the former Paris Saint-Germain captain who will be ready to contribute immediately, and Sule is at the perfect age to do so.

Rudiger still linked with exit

It could be a case of one German defender in and one German defender out at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Reports elsewhere have indicated that Antonio Rudiger is still in demand as he too prepares to enter the last year of his contract.

Rudiger has enjoyed a resurgence under Tuchel, but still faces an uncertain future – with two admirers still keeping him on their radar.
