Chelsea and Leicester have been fined £22,500 by the Football Association after a clash between the teams towards the end of their Premier League clash in May.
A tackle by Foxes full-back Ricardo Pereira on Ben Chilwell sparked a melee between players and staff from both sides. Consequently, the clubs were charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1.
An FA spokesperson said: “Chelsea FC and Leicester City FC have been fined £22,500 each after admitting a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following their Premier League fixture on Tuesday 18 May 2021.
“Both clubs admitted that they failed to ensure their players and club officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from provocative behaviour during the 93rd minute of the fixture.”
England international Chilwell has made Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for Euro 2020 as one of 10 defenders.
Chelsea won their clash with Leicester 2-1, with Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho securing three points for the Blues.
Indeed, those points would prove crucial in their finishing in the Premier League’s top four. However, the defeat proved a big blow for Leicester.
The Foxes eventually missed out on the Champions League next season after also losing to Tottenham.
Liverpool ended up finishing third, with Chelsea losing to Aston Villa in their final fixture of the season.
However, the Blues had the last laugh by winning the Champions League final against Manchester City last Saturday.
Tuchel not part of PFA nominations
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has not earned a nomination for the PFA Manager of the Year.
The German steered the club’s remarkable rise to Champions League glory after arriving in January.
Indeed, he has steadied Chelsea’s defence and enjoyed a solid run of results at Stamford Bridge.
However, Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Leeds’ Marcelo Bielsa are among the candidates for the award.
