Chelsea midfielder has queue of clubs including Palace, Watford pursuing

A Chelsea academy graduate is being pursued by a lengthy list of clubs from both England and France, a report has claimed.

The Blues possess one of the best youth set-ups in world football. The list of the talent to have come through their Cobham training ground is staggering. And their transfer embargo in 2019 meant they had to rely on some on their own products to step up to the plate.

Reece James and Mason Mount are two such examples. They both enjoyed plenty of game time in breakthrough campaigns in 2019/20.

However, being renowned for their impressive young stars is a double-edged sword. The west London side notoriously always have a long list of them out on-loan around Europe.

Often these players can get stuck in a seemingly never-ending cycle of temporary deals at different clubs each year.

A player who appears to be in said cycle currently is midfielder Trevoh Chalobah.

The younger brother of Nathaniel, who suffered the fate himself, has already spent two seasons in the Championship with Ipswich and Huddersfield respectively.

Last season he progressed to top-flight football in France’s Ligue 1 with a spell at Lorient.

Despite joining up with the Chelsea squad to begin pre-season preparations under Thomas Tuchel, Chalobah, unsurprisingly, will likely depart again for next season.

And according to L’Equipe, this has got a large number of sides from both sides of the Channel licking their lips.

The 22-year-old impressed those in charge at Lorient last season and they want him back for another spell.

However, the competition is high. In England, the trio of Crystal Palace, Watford and West Brom are considering him.

But the list of clubs in France is even longer. L’Equipe name Lens and Montpellier as two of many sides who have taken a shine to the England under-21 international.

It might be that Palace and Watford hold an upper hand on those others, though. Naturally, the Blues will want to keep his progression going, and Premier League football would be the next logical step.

What’s more, the Hornets, conveniently, are the club older brother Nathaniel now plays. He joined them from Stamford Bridge in 2017.

Blues lack of interest baffles pundit

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been criticised along with Manchester United for missing out on a deal to sign Brighton and England defender Ben White this summer.

The talented centre-back looks set to swap the south coast for north London after a £50million deal was agreed with Arsenal.

Danny Murphy feels that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Thomas Tuchel missed a trick by not signing the 23-year-old.

He told talkSPORT: “Ultimately, as a player, you can only make a decision based on the opportunity in front of you.

“If I’m Ben White, I’m going to Arsenal. They are the ones after me and it’s a step up, it’s a huge club.

“You can only move to a club that wants you. I agree that his quality and potential is really good. I’m surprised that Manchester United or Chelsea haven’t come in for him.”
