‘Desperate’ – Man Utd slammed by pundit for handling of star who wants move

Former England midfielder Paul Ince has called Man Utd ‘desperate’ as they attempt to keep a star player from the clutches of Juventus and Real Madrid.

There are multiple reports surrounding the Red Devils, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to find his best team while also attempting to please all his players. A number of stars have been kept on the bench, such as Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial.

Van de Beek could leave in the January transfer window. Everton and Newcastle have both been linked with loan moves for the attacking midfielder.

Martial, meanwhile, is a target for German outfit Borussia Dortmund. That’s despite him scoring just one goal so far this campaign.

Paul Pogba is one player that Man Utd are desperate to keep. The France international is one of their most valuable assets and one of Solskjaer’s most integral players.

But with his contract expiring in June, European powerhouses Juventus and Real are taking note.

Both sides want to snap him up on a free in July. They could even organise a pre-contract agreement as soon as January.

In response, Man Utd have offered Pogba a new, £400,000-a-week deal. Ince has now slammed the Red Devils for the inflated wage.

He told The United Stand: “That’s a sign of desperation from Manchester United in offering that contract.

“Obviously, they’re trying to persuade him to sign this deal. It’s a lot of money for someone who has been in and out of the side.

“He was on the bench two weeks ago against Everton and then all of a sudden you’re saying: ‘Here’s £400k-a-week!’

“Ultimately, if you’re paying that type of money for a player, he has to play every game and we’re not seeing Paul Pogba play every game.”

Ince then went on to question Pogba’s ideal place in the starting eleven.

“Where is his ideal position?” he added. “Where does Ole see him playing week in, week out? We know where Bruno Fernandes plays, that’s easy enough. But where does Paul Pogba play?

“Does he play in holding midfield like he did against Wolves? Is he going to play him on the left-hand side? Is he going to put him on the bench? There’s too much confusion with where Pogba’s best position is.

“He was more advanced at the start of the season and his assists record has been fantastic this season. He was unbelievable against Southampton.

‘But I’m looking at this and thinking, “What makes you offer Paul Pogba £400k-a-week at this precise moment?”

Man Utd prepared to sell England international

United chiefs are reportedly open to the sale of an England forward during the next transfer window.

Eyefootball write that 28-year-old Jesse Lingard will be allowed to leave Old Trafford.

A separate report from the Metro states that European heavyweights Barcelona and AC Milan are interested.

Barca’s poor financial situation means they will only be able to afford a free transfer.

That makes a switch to the San Siro more likely. Either way, Lingard is aiming to receive regular game time, just like he did at West Ham.
