Euro giant with fearsome frontline hunt Chelsea forward having second thoughts

Atletico Madrid have joined the race to sign a recent Chelsea signing who was revealed to be weighing up his future at the club, per a report.

Diego Simeone’s side already possess some of European football’s most formidable attackers. Luis Suarez helped fire Atletico to La Liga glory with 21 goals last season, while £113m signing Joao Felix still has his best years ahead.

The pair were joined by former Atletico favourite Antoine Griezmann this summer after completing a loan switch from Barcelona.

That move contained an obligation to buy, though the latest report suggests Simeone is eyeing even more firepower.

Goal (citing online outlet TransferMarketWeb), reveal Atletico have thrown their hat in the ring to sign Timo Werner.

The Chelsea striker, 25, has struggled to match the goalscoring output from his RB Leipzig days since arriving in 2020.

One factor behind his lack of return stems from VAR. It was remarkably revealed Werner has had 16 goals chalked off by VAR during his time in England.

Predictably, that drew the ire of Werner after seeing another goal go begging against Southampton on Saturday. However, the Telegraph recently reported he is thinking of more important things than the virtual referee.

They insisted Werner would ‘reassess his future’ if he is forced to continue taking a back seat under Thomas Tuchel. Romelu Lukaku’s arrival has pushed Werner down the order, though he was chosen to start in tandem with Lukaku versus the Saints.

Werner’s decision will likely be made midway through the campaign. At that point, it will be clearer whether he features prominently in Tuchel’s plans.

And should he deem an exit necessary for the benefit of his career, Atletico will reportedly be lurking.

Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have also been linked in recent weeks.

Barcelona’s struggles to appoint Xavi could open door to two other potential Koeman successors

Chelsea poised to receive defender’s transfer ‘attack’

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are reportedly prepared to challenge Chelsea’s resolve with a bid for Marcos Alonso.

Inter were linked with a move which failed to materialise before the August deadline. However, their interest has not ended and they could return for the left-back in January.

Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, who writes for TuttoMercatoWeb, states that Inter are once again hoping to land Alonso.

They are ‘back in force’ for the 30-year-old and are prepared to ‘attack’ Chelsea with a major bid.

Alonso returned to the fore this season with a string of impressive displays at wing-back. However, his recent form has railed off, resulting in Ben Chilwell’s return to the starting eleven versus Southampton on Saturday.
