Euro Paper Talk: Arsenal attempt dramatic deal for £60m Aubameyang successor; proactive Liverpool line up double deal

Arsenal will make a late scramble to sign Raul De Tomas depending on one other piece of business, while Liverpool are looking ahead to the summer with a double deal already in the pipeline – all in the deadline day edition of Euro Paper Talk.

AUBAMEYANG EXIT TO PROMPT ARSENAL SCRAMBLE FOR RAUL DE TOMAS

Arsenal will be able to sign Raul De Tomas from Espanyol if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joins Barcelona, according to AS.

For all of January, there has been speculation about how the Arsenal attack will change. Aubameyang has been linked with an exit along with Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun.

Before deadline day, the only one to have left (on loan to Middlesbrough) was Balogun. But Aubameyang looks likely to follow him out the exit door.

The Gabon international is a top target for Barcelona as the deadline approaches. They are close to securing his services on loan. Arsenal are not standing in his way after stripping him of the captaincy recently following disciplinary issues.

But despite him being dropped in recent weeks, Arsenal will still have to replace the 32-year-old. And to do so, they are targeting Raul De Tomas.

Last week, De Tomas emerged as essentially a Plan C for Arsenal, behind Dusan Vlahovic and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. They have definitely missed out on Vlahovic, who joined Juventus from Fiorentina; Calvert-Lewin also looks unlikely to join from Everton – at least not in January.

Raul De Tomas rising up Arsenal shortlist

Therefore, De Tomas now looks a more likely target for Arsenal before the window shuts. According to AS, they will make a late move for him if Aubameyang’s exit goes through.

De Tomas represents a cheaper target than, for example, Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad. But he will still not come cheap himself; his release clause is in the region of £60m.

But Arsenal can try and negotiate a deal for a smaller sum, even though Espanyol want to keep De Tomas.

Only Real Madrid icon Karim Benzema has outscored the 27-year-old in La Liga so far this season.

A deal remains difficult for Arsenal, who will be waiting for developments on the Aubameyang front first.
