Fabrizio Romano reveals Celtic talks to sign ‘huge defensive talent’

Respected transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Celtic have opened talks to sign highly-rated Rennes defender Brandon Soppy.

New Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou is expected to add a number of his players to his squad this summer after a disastrous campaign last time around, when Old Firm rivals Rangers convincingly claimed the Scottish Premiership title under Steven Gerrard.

Defence is expected to be a major priority for the Australian and Romano has lifted the lid on a top target.

However, Celtic face a tough task trying to sign the 19-year-old, who is interesting a number of clubs.

Soppy came through the youth ranks at Rennes and has made only 11 first-team appearances.

Celtic are interested in signing Brandon Soppy from Rennes [19, huge talent] as new left back. Talks opened – but there are also French clubs in the race. #Celtic #Rennes #transfers

Renewed interest in Ligue 1 star

It’s not the first time Celtic have been linked with the player. Foot Mercato claimed last year that a deal could be on the cards.

The French teenager can play at right-back on centre-back. However, Romano indicated that he could even be used on the left at Parkhead.

That sort of versatility is of great interest to Postecoglou, as Celtic look to regain their title this term.
