Five targets Eddie Howe has presented to Newcastle board, which includes Arsenal man
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has discussed a number of transfer targets with the board and five of them have been revealed by a report.
Howe got the first win under his belt at the weekend after guiding the Magpies to a 1-0 win over his old club Burnley. That lifted the Toon off the foot of the table and they are now just three points adrift of safety. And Howe is now looking forward to a January transfer window in which he is hoping to strengthen his squad.
Newcastle director Amanda Staveley is looking for a director of football. But that appointment will not be made in time for January.
The Daily Mail reports that London-based Nolan Partners are leading the process for Newcastle. In the meantime the club want a recruitment advisor to aid current head of recruitment Steve Nickson with his January planning.
Howe is understood to have spoken to the new owners the Saudi Arabian Investment Fund about his preferred targets.
And the source claim Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny is one of the players that has been “discussed”.
Elneny, 29, is out of contract next summer and has made just one start in the Premier League this season.
Howe is looking for a midfield anchor and the Egypt international may well be the steadying influence the Geordies require.
Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly, who Howe signed for Bristol City in 2019 is also on the list.
Germany centre-back Matthias Ginter is another player Howe has identified. The 27-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach defender is another player out of contract next summer.

Botman target for Howe
Joe Rodon, short of opportunities at Tottenham, is also liked by Howe. While Lille star Sven Botman is another target for the club.
Rodon may well be easier for Howe to get his hands on than Botman.
Transfer guru Ekrem Konur claims Newcastle and West Ham are both keen on Wales’ Rodon.
Botman though is more in demand and after helping Lille win the title last season the 21-year-old’s value is around the €50m mark.
Belgian football expert Sacha Tavolieri took to Twitter to suggest that Botman is ‘well and truly’ on the ‘shortlist’ at St James’ Park.
The 6ft 4in centre-back is said to have a ‘profile they like a lot for this winter’.
Manchester United though have also emerged as possible suitors after Ralf Rangnick’s arrival.
Earlier this week Burnley pair James Tarkowski and Ben Mee were said to be of interest to Howe.
