Former player confirms Sheffield United interest in Championship star
Charlie Adam has revealed Sheffield United were interested in signing Reading midfielder John Swift.
Swift, 26, has been outstanding so far this season, scoring eight goals and assisting six more for his side. However, the talented midfielder valued at around £7 million is out of contract this summer. Former Royals player Charlie Adam has revealed that the Blades were interested in pursuing the in-form star.
Speaking to BBC Berkshire, Adam said: “His talent, and his goals and assists, shows he can go and play at (Premier League) level – but it’s getting that opportunity.
“Sheffield United were interested in him when they were in the Premier League when I was at Reading. It’s going to be difficult (to keep him at Reading). The longer his contract runs down, the club will have to look at (selling him). He’s a talented player.”
With no sign of a new contract being signed, the Royals could be tempted to cash-in on Swift.
With rumours constantly surrounding Swift to Sheffield United, it’s no coincidence to hear that the interest was genuine.
Whilst the Blades came closest to signing Swift during their Premier League spell, other clubs have been heavily linked.
Now the Royals ace is hitting the form of his life, interest will surround the out-of-contract star throughout January.

Loan player gives an update on future
Ismaila Couilbaly has admitted he is unsure when he will link-up with Sheffield United.
The Mali under-20 international is currently on loan at Beerschot in the Belgian Pro-League.
However, Coulibaly, 20, has struggled for form as his side sit bottom of the league.
Speaking to local paper Gazet van Antwerpen, the youngster said: “My father maintains contact with my broker and Sheffield United.
“Last summer he felt much better for my development that I would stay at Beerschot for at least another season.
“I still have a lot to learn and I’m keeping focussed on Beerschot.
“After that, we will see.”
Coulibaly is yet to train for Sheffield United since joining from Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08 last summer.
