Four-star Leeds destroy Burnley as Bielsa’s side bring up impressive goals stat

Substitute Rodrigo scored two exquisite goals to add to strikes from Mateusz Klich and Jack Harrison as Leeds powered their way to a convincing 4-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

It was the Clarets who made a bright start but it was Patrick Bamford who forced the first save. His powerful drive on the angle was pushed away by former Leeds keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Leeds continued to press with Gjanni Alioski and Stuart Dallas trying their luck. However, Burnley continued to impose a threat with a quick-release long ball up front.

Raphinha then thought he was in on goal before some last-ditch defending from Charlie Taylor denied him. From the resulting corner, Leeds then carved out the best chance of the game. With the corner played out to Kalvin Phillips, his clipped cross picked out the rising Pascal Struijk and his powerful 12-yard header flashed inches past the post.

The strike was Leeds’ 13th this season from outside the penalty area – more than any other Premier League side. It was also Klich’s first goal from open play since the first game of the season.

Raphinha then saw an acrobatically volley flash high over as he attempted the spectacular.

Leeds finally took the lead their pressure deserved a minute before the interval. With Burnley on the attack, Leeds broke with speed and purpose. And with the ball fed out to Klich, he bent in a superb goal from 25 yards which gave Peacock-Farrell no chance.

Great counter-attack from Leeds, everyone up but Klich didn’t need them!

Illan Meslier then saved Ashley Westwood’s free-kick with their first shot on goal in the closing action of the half.

Harrison doubles Leeds lead

Burnley came out the blocks quickly at the start of the second half. Indeed, a towering Ben Mee header almost fell kindly to Jack Cork in the penalty area.

Westwood then moved the ball well before unleashing a 25-yard volley that flew wide and did not trouble Meslier.

The Clarets then carved out their best opening when persistent play from Matej Vydra saw him through on goal. However, his shot produced an excellent save from the feet of Meslier. Moments later, Chris Wood curled an effort narrowly over.

However, Leeds doubled their lead on the hour when Alioski’s shot on goal produced a cheeky flick with the outside of his heel from Harrison.

Burnley brought on Ashley Barnes and Jay Rodriguez for Wood and Vydra to try and give them fresh impetus.

Meslier was then required to make another decent save to keep out the Clarets out.

Leeds though then wrapped up the win with a quality third goal in the 77th minute. The goal was created by Harrison, who slipped a sublime pass through to Rodrigo. He controlled superbly between Burnley’s centre-halves and lifted a lovely finish over Peacock-Farrell.

Rodrigo then netted his second two minutes later, with Harrison again the provider. His lovely pass from the wing was inch, perfect for the Spain international, who rounded Peacock-Farrell and fired into the unguarded net.

That is top class!

Excellent ball from Harrison into Rodrigo who spins Tarkowski AND Mee!

Taylor then stuck out his foot to prevent Rodrigo scoring a third and Leeds’ fifth.

That proved the end of the scoring as Leeds comfortably claimed the win. For all the talk of Bielsa burn-out, Leeds are now on a run of one defeat in nine games. It’s been an excellent return to the top table for Bielsa’s side.
