Guardiola tells Grealish how to prove himself for Man City; explains why Leeds haven’t dropped standards

Pep Guardiola has sent a reminder that Jack Grealish is doing nothing wrong as he aims to prove himself at Manchester City.

There is a lot of pressure on Grealish to deliver for City due to the £100m transfer fee they spent to sign him from Aston Villa in the summer. It is taking time for him to justify that through goals and assists – he has two and three respectively so far this season – but Guardiola continues to back the number 10.

According to the City boss, Grealish does not need to change anything about his approach. However, he did have some advice that may help the attacking midfielder.

“Grealish doesn’t have to do anything different. The way he’s playing is good,” he insisted.

“It will come, absolutely no problem. He’ll continue to practice because you’ve got so many fantastic players.

“He thinks we have to score correct goals all the time… he doesn’t have to.

“[What] he has to do is play feel like he knows what he has to do, he has to do exactly what he is doing. No more than that. The rest is coming in time.

“He has chances to score goals every game and one day he is going to do it. He could have had a hat trick against Watford and he will have that chance again.”

Guardiola expecting Leeds challenge

Guardiola was speaking at a press conference ahead of City’s clash with Leeds United on Tuesday night.

He confirmed Ferran Torres is the only player unavailable, but is still expecting a majorly tough challenge against a coach he knows well.

“Leeds is one of our toughest opponents. It’s a challenge,” he said. “We know a lot of people will be watching us.

“I don’t think Leeds have dropped their standards. I know [Patrick] Bamford has been injured but Marcelo [Bielsa] never complains. We have to adapt.

“They are going to play in a way we are not used to in these kinds of games.

“At the same time, it is at the Etihad, we know a lot of people will be there and we want to do a good game tomorrow.”
