Haaland revelation emerges as key Man City factor in transfer hunt ‘does not exist’, changing deal prospects

Erling Haaland does not in fact have a release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract as Manchester City eye a deal, a report has claimed.

The Citizens are reportedly going after the Norwegian marksman ahead of the summer transfer window. While they tried to sign Harry Kane last summer, they could not prise the Tottenham star away.

Indeed, City reportedly had a bid worth £125million rejected for Kane. Pep Guardiola therefore admitted recently that he feared for his side’s goalscoring capabilities without the 28-year-old.

Still, Man City‘s desire for a new striker has not gone away. They have instead turned their focus to Dortmund’s Norway international Haaland.

The 21-year-old’s contract runs until 2024, but he has a £63million release clause this summer. Reports have claimed that City are putting together a deal worth over £100million for Haaland.

Furthermore, there is reportedly a deadline of April 30 by which City have to activate that release clause.

According to Sport1, though, that clause does not exist. As a result, City have more freedom with which to pursue their deal for Haaland.

Nevertheless, it could let in other teams who fancy their chances of a deal, but who saw Guardiola’s side closing in on a raid.

Paris Saint-Germain could register interest if Kylian Mbappe leaves, as expected, to Real Madrid as a free agent.

Barcelona are also in the mix for Haaland. However, their financial troubles make a deal harder.

In any case, Haaland is not slowing down in his pursuit of goals. He has scored 16 in 16 Bundesliga games this season, despite injury problems affecting him.

Overall, he has netted 56 times in 59 German top-flight games.

Haaland a firm Man City striker option

Kane was not the only striker City went after last summer. They were also closing in on Cristiano Ronaldo until Manchester United swooped in with a late move.

As a result, there is a great desire at the Etihad Stadium to add more firepower to the attack.

Julian Alvarez signed from River Plate in January and is back on loan in Argentina until the summer.

But coming into the next transfer window, there is a sense City will get a deal for a top-class new striker sewn up.
