Ian Wright makes worrying Antonio Conte future prediction at Tottenham

Ian Wright believes Antonio Conte will jump ship at Tottenham in the summer unless they have big plans in the transfer market give him “everything” he wants.

Conte was drafted in to replace Nuno Espirito Santo in November after Spurs’ experiment with the Portuguese boss lasted just four months. The Italian was the man that Daniel Levy wanted last summer. The former Inter Milan turned down the opportunity, saying: “Money is not my obsession. I look at projects and I’m ready to stay at home if they don’t convince me.

“I like difficult challenges but if there is something with a club that does not convince me, I prefer to say: no, thank you.”

Levy did though manage to get the former Chelsea boss to the club at the second time of asking.

The 52-year-old might well be regretting his decision to take the job after his latest comments.

Conte has said his Spurs squad had been “weakened” in the January transfer window. And he also played down their chances of finishing in the top four.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports Italia, Conte said: “What happened in January was not easy. We lost four players – four important players for Tottenham – and we brought in only two.

“So even just in terms of numbers, rather than reinforce the squad, we, on paper, may have weakened it.

“I’ve always said that I have to feel only one per cent the possibility to win the league. Here it is strange because maybe I feel the one per cent possibility to finish fourth.

“The level of this league is very high and there is not a lot of space for other teams than the top teams.”

Conte must be ‘frustrated’

And now Wright thinks Conte could walk away from the job at the end of the season.

Wright said on his Wrighty’s House podcast: “I feel for Antonio Conte because unless they’ve told him in the summer, ‘we’re going to give you everything you want’, I cannot see him staying there. I can’t see it.

“Spurs cannot carry on how they are now, nothing happening in January, with a manager like Conte. A winning manager, a manager who’s aggressive and wants to win.

“The way Spurs are at the moment, I’m sorry, that game against Wolves… come on, man. Come on.

“I don’t know what he’s going to do. And I would be frustrated if I was him. I cannot sit here and feel like Conte is happy with his lot unless he knows more than we know in terms of the summer. Why would he stay for that?”
