Inter warned selling Tottenham target would be a huge mistake, as perfect Conte signing makes demand

Inter should “think twice” before selling Tottenham transfer target Stefan de Vrij, and the Dutchman has now demanded clarity on his future.

De Vrij, 30, has long been touted as a potential summer signing at Tottenham. Conte wasted little time deploying his customary back three system, though doubts remain over some of his current options.

Cristian Romero is adapting well to the Premier League, while Eric Dier has stepped up his game since Conte arrived. However, Ben Davies is unlikely to be the long-term option in a back three and Davinson Sanchez remains prone to errors.

As such, Dutchman De Vrij continues to draw links with Tottenham with Conte knowing precisely what he’d bring.

De Vrij was a key component in Inter’s title-winning side under Conte last year.

And despite remaining a top performer, talk has swelled over a potential summer exit.

The centre-half’s current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2023. Get Italian Football News report De Vrij would be happy to remain at the San Siro, though there is no sign of an extension being offered at present.

What’s more, it’s claimed Torino’s Gleison Bremer is already being eyed up as De Vrij’s potential replacement. If Inter are set on moving on from De Vrij, a sale this summer to avoid losing him for free 12 months later makes the most sense.

De Vrij baffled by Inter stance

The report notes De Vrij is somewhat baffled as to why he has not been offered a new deal. That’s despite multiple meetings already having taken place between the club and agent Mino Raiola.

De Vrij is now said to be demanding clarity about his future in Milan once and for all.

If the response is that he should pack his bags, the Dutchman will then explore his options elsewhere.

Tottenham’s interest in De Vrij is twice reaffirmed in the piece. And if the comments of former Inter midfielder Aron Winter are anything to go by, Spurs would be securing a significant coup if De Vrij was signed.

“I would think twice before selling him,” Winter told Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia).

“Where can [Inter] find someone better? I’ve always felt a close bond with him.

“Perhaps because we shared the same journey in Italy, first at Lazio and then at Inter. He is a nice guy and I like how he defends and the way he holds the ball, in a very Dutch style.”
