Jadon Sancho handed Man Utd warning with ‘big man’ on the mend

Marcus Rashford’s impending return to action could spell bad news for Jadon Sancho at Manchester United, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Sancho has had a slow start to life at Old Trafford with the England star still awaiting his first goal or assist. While Cristiano Ronaldo has hit the ground running on his return, 21-year-old Sancho has struggled to adjust to Premier League life.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has made four starts from seven appearances, but his form has yet to take off.

Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood played either side of Ronaldo in the win at West Ham at the weekend. Sancho though returned to start the cup game against the same opposition, but he failed to sparkle.

In fact the Manchester Evening News gave the attacker a lowly 5/10 and noted a “subdued” night for the former Man City man.

In his defence Sancho will claim he has ducked in an out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on both flanks.

But former Aston Villa forward Agbonlahor says Sancho will have to pick his form up quickly or face being left on the subs bench.

“I’m worried because the big man Rashford’s on his way back,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. “If you’ve not started in the Premier League and Rashford’s coming back, then he’s going to be even further down the pecking order.

“Rashford will come straight back into the team with Greenwood on the right and Ronaldo in the middle.

“He’s got to start putting in performances before Rashford becomes available.”

Rashford has not kicked a ball all season after picking up a shoulder injury at Euro 2020. He is on the mend though and the trip to Leicester City on 16 October has been pencilled in for his return.

Ole defends Sancho

Speaking about Rashford and Alex Telles, Solskjaer said earlier this week: “Yeah it’s going well. They’ve worked really hard, both of them. Alex is a bit further on than Marcus.

“I don’t think we’ll see Marcus until after the international break. But Alex has worked well and will be in the squad as well.”

Solskjaer has defender his £72m summer signing and said that the midweek defeat to the Hammers was Sancho’s first 90 minutes of action.

“Of course the shirt’s not too big for him,” said Solskjaer.

“He’s finding his way of course. He’s back into English football, new team-mates.

“This is his first ninety minutes with new team-mates and that’ll stand him in good stead.

“He grew into the game and had some good moments. He’ll come.”
