Jamie Carragher reveals where Mo Salah fits in top 10 of Liverpool greats

Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Liverpool talisman Mo Salah and believes he can be classed as one of the club’s “greats”.

Salah, who was leading the line in the Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Wednesday, has been Liverpool’s star man in recent seasons. And the Egypt star is looking for his eighth successive away game in Europe with a goal in the San Siro.

He already has 23 goals in 28 appearances this season on the back of a 31-goal haul last season.

But his future is far from assured, with his contract set to expire in 2023. The club have held talks with the 29-year-old and Jurgen Klopp is relaxed about the situation.

A report in December claimed the forward had three demands before agreeing to new terms on Merseyside.

But during a recent interview with GQ he sent a plea to the Liverpool board to finalise his future.

“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in their hands. They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff,” Salah said.

“The thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something (they should) because they appreciate what you did for the club.

“I’ve been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me.

“But with the administration, they have (been) told the situation. It’s in their hands.”

The situation though remains at a standstill with Salah available to speak to foreign clubs next January about a free transfer.

But Carragher was in no doubt that value of Salah to the club and if he does leave he says he will go down as one of the club’s greatest ever players.

Salah one of Premier League’s ‘greatest’

Speaking on beINSPORTS, Carragher said: “He will rest alongside Dalglish, Gerrard, Rush, John Barnes, Souness – he will be up there with the absolute greats.

“He is in Liverpool’s all time XI on the right wing, that’s his. And he is one of the top five or six players to ever play for Liverpool Football Club.

“He has won the biggest trophies. He was won the European Cup, he has won the league.

“His goalscoring record is out of this world. He has won the Golden Boot virtually every year since he has been in the country. Since he joined the club Liverpool have been to a Champions League final, won the Champions League, won the league and he’s been top scorer in the league.

“And this season we don’t know what that will bring. That shows the impact he’s had.

“He is one of the all time greatest players in the Premier League, for sure.”
