Kulusevski explains how Tottenham coaches have found his ‘perfect position’ in fast start

Dejan Kulusevski believes the Tottenham Hotspur staff have unlocked his potential after vowing to prove people wrong during his time with the club.

Kulusevski joined the Premier League side in the winter transfer window, on loan from Juventus. There are various conditions that could make the transfer permanent. It seems like a preferable outcome for all concerned.

The winger has made a good impression since starting his Tottenham Hotspur spell. So far for the club, he has provided six assists and three goals from 14 appearances.

In comparison, during the first half of the season with Juventus, he was given little space in the team. Consequently, he only managed two goals and three assists from 27 games there.

Kulusevski has already started more games for Tottenham this season than he did for Juventus. As such, the Sweden international has been fulfilling his aim of “proving people wrong” back in Turin.

He told Tottenham’s official website: “I think that I wanted to show everybody what I could do. I think I maybe became even more motivated. I love proving people wrong, so I was very hungry when I came here.

“But, still, I knew it would be very, very difficult to arrive in a new league and everything that comes with that. A lot of things had to click, and, honestly, everything has clicked so well.

“With the coaches, they found the perfect position for me, so I can have the ball a lot, attack the goal and have opportunities to score goals and assist my team-mates.

“I think you can see, when I play, I play freely, without really thinking, without worrying about mistakes, I just play my game. That is when I play at my best. I am happy when I can do that.

“And my team-mates have been amazing. From the first day, I got a really warm welcome and, on the pitch, we have fun together – that’s very good. I also knew some of them from before.

“The most important thing is that we have fun away from the pitch and we are like a family and then, on the pitch, everything is easier.”

Tottenham’s form since Kulusevski’s arrival – although not the only factor – has improved. Now, that squad is in contention for a return to the top four, which seemed a tough task earlier in the season.

With six games of their season remaining, Tottenham have a three-point cushion in fourth place. Rivals Arsenal have a game in hand over them, but Spurs’ goal difference is better for now anyway.

Kulusevski amassed Champions League experience with Juventus and would be hoping for more of the same with Tottenham next season.
