Lee Dixon tips Arsenal to go for the jugular with warning to close Premier League rival

Arsenal legend Lee Dixon feels the side should be aiming to challenge Chelsea for third place, following a fantastic Premier League run.

Arsenal have been in fantastic league form of late. Indeed, of their last 10 Premier League fixtures, they have only lost two, to Everton and Manchester City.

During that run, they have picked up 22 points from a possible 30. Their win against Wolves in the week elevated them into fifth place, just one point behind Manchester United.

What’s more, they have two games in hand over United, and one over third-placed Chelsea.

While the Gunners are now challenging for fourth, club-legend Dixon feels they should set their sights higher.

“If I’m in that Arsenal dressing room now I’m not looking at Man United I’m looking at Chelsea,” he said, quoted by The Daily Mail.

“Win our game in hand and [we’re] two points behind Chelsea – they’ve got games than us to play in the Champions League – I’m getting my sights at where Arsenal should be, or should have been for years. All of a sudden that is the target they should be aiming at.”

Indeed, with Chelsea’s sights not firmly on the league, Arsenal could mount an attack, should they maintain their form.

“Tony Adams would be going around saying in the dressing room, ‘you know what?, forget Man United, we’re going for Chelsea,” Dixon added.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta’s ambition could well see him inspire his side into the top three.

Dixon impressed with Arsenal resistance

Dixon was also complimentary of how Arsenal fought back from a goal behind to win against Wolves.

“They [Arsenal] showed a lot of character out there as Wolves are a frustrating team to play against because of the way they close space down, they don’t give anything away, and when they started to drop into a proper five and make it difficult,” he said.

“A lot of credit goes to Arteta for making those substitutions at the right time with the right player.”

Arteta’s management has seen his side go on a fantastic run. The Spaniard has been able to turn things around following a poor start, which saw Arsenal lose their first three league games this term.
