Leicester are reported to be emerging as the most likely candidates to sign Jeremie Boga this summer – but it will take an eye-watering fee to convince Sassuolo to part with their prized winger.
The Frenchman has emerged as a genuine talent since swapping Chelsea for the northern Italian side. The 24-year-old has netted 18 goals in 89 appearances for Sassuolo – but it seems a transfer is on the cards this summer.
Indeed, as per Calciomercato, Boga has informed Sassuolo he wishes to move on this summer. That’s amid claims a number of clubs have registered an interest in signing the winger. Indeed, the Italian outlet reports that Atalanta, Napoli, Lyon, Olympique Marseille and Villarreal are all keen.
However, it’s claimed that the chase is headed by Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester. The Foxes will play in Europe once again next season, though it’s still to be determined if that’s in the Champions League or the Europa League.
Nonetheless, plans are in place to strengthen their pool and Boga has reportedly been earmarked as a leading target.
But Calciomercato reports that signing Boga won’t come cheap. They state bidding for his services will start at €30m. And it’s claimed his final price could reach €40m – close to the club-record fee Leicester paid for Youri Tielemans.
That fee is likely to see just three concrete suitors emerge in the shape of Atalanta, Napoli and Leicester.
But it seems Leicester are the favourites for two reasons. Firstly, it’s stated that, with money to spend, Leicester won’t be afraid to splash the cash. Furthermore, it’s claimed Boga fits the profile of player Rodgers is looking for this summer.
Leicester to pass up on Under
The Foxes are likely to have space in their squad for a new winger.
That’s amid claims that Rodgers will decide against making Cengiz Under’s loan stay from Roma into a permanent one.
The Turkey forward joined the Foxes on a season’s loan from Roma last summer. He though has struggled to make the impact expected, having started just once in the Premier League all season. In total, he has made 19 appearances for Leicester, scoring twice and having three assists.
And while Leicester have the option to turn his loan into a permanent deal, they are set to waive that chance and send him back to Italy.
That is reflected by the fact that Under has not even made Leicester’s bench in a Premier League game since late February.
However, he could soon find a route back to the Premier League. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Under has no future at Roma and will be allowed to leave for a fee of £17.2m – a price that has seemingly caught Arsenal’s attention.
