Leicester target exit confirmed as Rodgers snares striker from Liverpool

RB Salzburg’s new manager Matthias Jaissle has hinted that in-demand striker Patson Daka will be leaving the club this summer, with Leicester City his likely destination.

Daka, 22, has been turning heads with his displays in the Austrian Bundesliga. After bagging 24 league goals in the 2019-2020 campaign, he notched 27 last season, with 34 in all competitions. They came from 42 outings and it is clear he is one of the most sought-after forwards in the European game.

Many clubs have been linked, with Liverpool thought to hold an interest. It was reported earlier this month that the Zambia international was “very keen” on a move to Anfield.

But the Foxes have now emerged as favourites to land the African before the start of next season. The Reds could have offered him Champions League football after pipping Leicester to a top-four spot.

But, with such attacking talent at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, it is open to debate how much action he would see. There would be more opportunities at the King Power Stadium, with the Europa League on the agenda once again.

A move to the East Midlands would come with the added bonus of being able to learn from Jamie Vardy. The former England man may be the wrong side of 30 but is still as eager as ever to score goals.

Whatever happens, it is now almost certain that Daka will exit the Red Bull Arena. Jaissle has only just taken over as manager but made it clear where his future lies.

“The transfer has not been finalised yet, but it strongly looks like [Patson] Daka will leave us,” he told reporters as per the Leicester Mercury.

Many rumours but Daka future still undecided

There was a major report in early June that European champions Chelsea were set to lure him to Stamford Bridge. That we quickly shot down by reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

And the Italian journalist also reported earlier his week that Leicester had virtually completed a deal to sign him. There has been nothing from the club but news that he will leave the Austrians means that might not be too far away.

Leicester will be hoping that he can help take the club to the next level. Having been in the top four for most of the season, they were cruelly ousted right at the death.

The Anfield outfit rallied just when it was required to leave Brendan Rodgers frustrated once more. The signing of Daka would be a huge boost for the fans as they look forward to exciting times under the Northern Irishman.
