On-loan Lyon full-back Mattia de Sciglio admits that he could entertain a move to Chelsea if Thomas Tuchel came calling for his signature.
The Blues’ season looked to be heading the wrong way at the turn of the year. While Frank Lampard had enjoyed a big summer of spending, those finances did not translate to an upturn in form. Instead, the 42-year-old got the sack, with ex-Paris Saint-Germain boss Tuchel arriving in his place.
Since then, though, Chelsea have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround. They have re-entered the fight to finish in the top four and could end the season with two trophies.
They face Leicester in Saturday’s FA Cup final, while Manchester City await in the Champions League final.
Tuchel’s exploits have subsequently have caught the eye across Europe, including those of De Sciglio.
The full-back is on loan from Juventus at Lyon, where he hopes to negotiate a permanent stay this summer. However, he admitted that he would snap up the chance to move to Stamford Bridge.
“At the beginning, I had doubts about this new experience, by I’ve changed my mind quickly,” the Italian told Tuttosport.
“Lyon are a great club and it’s no coincidence they eliminated Juventus and Manchester City from the Champions League last season.
“I’d like to stay here at Lyon. I feel well on and off the pitch. Alternatively, I’d like to try a new experience abroad, possibly in England.
I am fascinated by the Premier League and Chelsea, but right now, I am only focused on the last part of the season. We want to leapfrog Monaco and qualify for the Champions League play-offs.”
Lyon, who sit in fourth in Ligue 1, are a point behind third-placed Monaco.
Should De Sciglio return to Juventus, though, it remains unclear where his future would lie. He has only a year left on his contract at the Serie A club.
Pulisic sets Chelsea record straight
Meanwhile, Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has insisted that his future lies at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old has found game time somewhat hard to come by this season, but has impressed when playing. He scored the crucial away goal which helped Chelsea get past Real Madrid and into the Champions League final.
Amid his struggles, though, Liverpool have been linked with a swoop.
