Liverpool gifted clearer run at top target as Arsenal seek ‘something different’

Yves Bissouma is not the kind of midfielder Arsenal are looking for this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Bissouma has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium after impressing with Brighton over the last few years. The midfielder is seemingly ready to step up and Arsenal could be an interesting option for him. The Gunners are looking to strengthen in midfield so it could be the perfect match.

Reports earlier this month suggested that Arsenal were confident of winning the race to sign Bissouma. Brighton will seek to double their money and sell him for £30m – or potentially even more – even though they would rather keep him.

Arsenal were installed as favourites on the condition that Mikel Arteta kept his job as manager. But either way, doubt has now been cast on how much they want Bissouma.

“He’s been linked to Arsenal yes, but I’m told he’s not the hottest name for Arsenal, you know,” Romano told The United Stand. “They are looking for something different.”

It was then put to Romano that Manchester United might be a potential suitor. However, the reporter said there was nothing in it as of yet.

“For United, at the moment, no, but we’re in May, so let’s see what happens,” Romano said.

Bissouma has also been linked heavily with Liverpool, who will have to replace Georginio Wijnaldum after he confirmed he was leaving as a free agent.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a big fan of the Brighton star, so those links could increase in the coming weeks.

And if Arsenal have stepped back in their pursuit, Liverpool may grow more confident of getting their man.

Arsenal eyeing Buendia

Meanwhile, for more advanced midfield territory, Arsenal have been linked with Norwich’s Emiliano Buendia if they can’t keep Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard.

There appears to be a growing realisation at Emirates Stadium that keeping Odegaard is a fading dream.

As per Goal, the Gunners are already making strong plans to replace him in the side. And Norwich’s Argentinian playmaker Buendia appears top of their wanted list.

The Canaries value Buendia in the £40m mark. At 24 years of age, the star has underlined his qualities in the Championship this season. He has scored 15 times and created 16 more as Norwich steamrollered their way to promotion.

Buendia was also named Championship Player of the Year in the process.

However, the Canaries’ valuation still represents something of an issue for the Gunners. Edu will reportedly try and get creative to try and drive down his asking price. That could involve offering the likes of Eddie Nketiah or Reiss Nelson to Norwich as part of the deal.
