Liverpool make contact for bargain buy though have Italian pair for company

Liverpool have made contact for a potential bargain signing – but they have an Italian pair in battle with them, according to a report.

The Reds were very quiet in this summer’s transfer window. Having signed centre-back Ibrahima Konate early on, they refrained from splashing any more cash. As such, they are expected to be more active come the end of this season.

They’ve tied a lot of their current crop down to new deals. But when a tempting deal for a potential star is on the table, any club would find it hard to resist.

A player has caught Jurgen Klopp’s eye who has less than two years left on his contract and has put in impressive performances of late.

That man is Torino defender Gleison Bremer. And now Radio Itatiaia in his home country of Brazil (via Sport Witness) report discussions have begun.

They claim Anfield officials have been in touch with the 24-year-old’s representatives. But they are not the only ones.

Bremer has been a shining light in Serie A. As such, the top teams in the league who have faced him have taken an interest too.

Inter Milan and AC Milan have also made contact. And in a recent edition of Italian paper Tuttosport (via sempreinter), Napoli were named as an interested party.

This report said that Torino were looking to get Bremer tied down to a new contract.

However, with a number of top clubs after him, they look to be facing an uphill battle to keep ahold of their defender.

He’s spent three full seasons with them and gradually established himself in the starting XI.

In the last Serie A campaign he made 33 appearances and scored an impressive five goals. A price tag of €25m has supposedly been put on his head. But that could lower as his expiry gets closer.

Reds on fire explained

Meanwhile, Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has revealed the secret to their red-hot goalscoring form so far this season.

Lijnders, who was standing in for Klopp at Tuesday’s press conference, compared Liverpool’s forwards to “raptors from Jurassic Park”.

Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford means they have now scored 41 goals in 13 matches in all competitions.

Speaking ahead of the Carabao Cup tie at Preston on Wednesday, Lijnders says a “back to basics” approach and giving the players as much time off as possible has been crucial.
