Liverpool scouts have £20m team-mate of Naby Keita’s on January watchlist

Liverpool scouts will be taking a close interest in Guinea midfielder Aguibou Camara at the African Cup of Nations next month, claims a report.

The 20-year-old Camara is a player who has been on the Anfield club’s radar since October. The interest in the midfielder was broken by journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos, who was apparently one of the first sources to break the story that Liverpool were interested in Olympiacos left-back Kostas Tsimikas.

SporTime(via Sport Witness), have since claimed Liverpool watched the Guinea international in the 1-0 defeat to Antwerp earlier this month.

The Sun later claimed that Liverpool, Leicester and Newcastle were all tracking him.

Camara is a bright talent who is already on nine caps for his national team, Guinea. He joined Olympiacos for just £109k in July but his valuation has already hit around £20m after a number of scouts were alerted to his progress.

Olympiacos’ president, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, has set his demands high at around £20m.

Now FootMercato, via Sport Witness, insist the Reds will be one of several sides keeping an eye on him in Cameroon.

Anfield scouts will continue to “monitor” the youngster, who is a team-mate of their own Naby Keita.

Watching Camara brief

Camara has established himself as a key player for Olympiakos. He has five goals and four assists this season, while he has also experienced Europa League football.

Newcastle are also set to keep an eye on the player. But a move in January for the talented midfielder is “unlikely” at this stage.

Olympiakos are though “aware of the potential” and Camara’s “growing market value”.

He is under contract until 2025. And next summer may well be the time when the Greek side cash in on the attacking talent.
