Liverpool seal ‘coup’ of signing after Tottenham turn nose up at rising star

Liverpool have won the race to sign exciting Newcastle youngster Bobby Clark after Tottenham rejected his transfer, a report claims.

The Reds have built up an exciting reputation for young signings in recent seasons. Indeed, the likes of Joe Hardy, Kaide Gordon and Jake Cain have all impressed in the club’s academy ranks. Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott remains only 18 but manager Jurgen Klopp says that he has made exciting developments.

However, planning for the future of the club never ends. Earlier this year, reports claimed a race had begun to snap up Clark, 16, from the North East.

While Liverpool were in the race, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham also reportedly have interest.

According to Football Insider, though, Liverpool have sealed the signing of the starlet.

Clark has reportedly arrived at the Reds’ training facilities to undergo a medical and sign his contract.

What’s more, he will join Liverpool’s Under-18s squad next season. The Reds reportedly regard Clark’s signing as a ‘coup’.

But they have won the race partly because of Tottenham’s reluctance to move for him.

Spurs academy coach Paul Bracewell ‘ran the rule’ over scouting Clark at Newcastle earlier this year. However, after watching the player for an ‘extended period’, he came to the conclusion not to advise a move.

Clark is the son of former Newcastle player Lee Clark.

The youngster already has one Under-18 Premier League appearance under his belt. Still, he can expect to rack up more if his move to Liverpool goes through.

As well as league action, he could star in the FA Youth Cup. Liverpool’s Under-18s reached the final last season. Despite losing to Aston Villa, the future looks bright for the crop of talent.

Milner lauds Liverpool youngster

As for Liverpool’s other teenage talent, Elliott impressed on loan at Blackburn last season.

In fact, he earned a nomination for the Championship’s Young Player of the Season.

He has come back and done well in the Reds’ pre-season training camp.

James Milner believes that while it will be “tough” for the attacker to adapt to Klopp’s style of play, he can learn from the more senior stars.
