Liverpool star agitating for move as European giants ‘dream’ of €80m raid

Mohamed Salah “wants to leave” Liverpool and one club reportedly see him as their “dream” replacement for a high-profile star.

Salah has regularly been linked with an exit from Liverpool thanks to his spectacular form for them. Since joining in 2017, he has managed to score 123 goals in 198 games. Even this season, when his fellow attackers have struggled, he has provided 29 goals in all competitions.

With Liverpool at risk of missing out on the Champions League, Salah could be considering his future. His contract only runs until 2023 and he has admitted that the club have not contacted him about a renewal yet.

“No one is talking to me about anything, I can’t say much about that,” he told Sky Sports recently.

“No one at the club talked to me about anything, so I don’t know.”

Amid those doubts, other clubs could see an opportunity. And it seems Paris Saint-Germain are very much alert to the situation.

According to Le Parisien, PSG “dream” of signing Salah as a replacement if they have to sell Kylian Mbappe. It is not the first time such a statement has been made, so there appears to be some weight behind the rumour.

Furthermore, Salah reportedly “wants to leave” Liverpool, so may be receptive to what PSG have to offer.

Mauricio Pochettino is preparing for his first summer at the helm and Salah is seen as an ideal fit for his system. After PSG exited the Champions League at the semi-final stage, acquiring someone like the Egyptian would be a boost to their chances of progressing further in future.

Now, they have learnt how much it will cost for them to prise Salah away from Liverpool. It is claimed that an offer of around €80m should do the trick.

If PSG have to sell Mbappe, they would likely be able to get a bigger fee. Therefore, they should be able to afford Salah, potentially giving Liverpool cause for concern.

Liverpool told to let Salah go

Some, though, believe Liverpool have nothing to worry about if Salah does end up leaving.

Robbie Fowler told the Daily Mirror back in March: “If the player is agitating for a move, let him go.

“I’m not having a go at Salah. I love him to bits. But I truly believe that transfers now are largely about what players want, so the ball is in his court, not Liverpool’s.

“If he wants to go, then he should go. If a player wants to leave, we have to accept it’s in the mix.

“I’m a firm believer that if they are unhappy and want to be going, then they should be going. Jurgen Klopp has said the same, too – he doesn’t want anyone at the club who doesn’t want to be there.

“It is my belief that was his attitude with Philippe Coutinho. He agitated for a move. Liverpool turned it down in the summer because it didn’t suit them financially and in terms of bringing players in.

“But they did the deal in January, and used the money to buy Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

“Klopp didn’t want Coutinho because he thought his attitude wasn’t right. He didn’t want that poison in his camp in the end.

“So if Salah is truly unhappy, if he is upset he hasn’t been given a new contract or whatever, then cash in, get as much as you can for him and use the money to make tweaks with the current team.”
