Liverpool told striker signing is on in 2022 if they can double Haaland price

Liverpool have been given encouragement that they can sign striker target Karim Adeyemi in 2022 – although his price tag will give them something to think about.

Adeyemi has been enjoying a productive start to the season with RB Salzburg, for whom he has scored eight goals in 10 league games this term. He also recently scored on his senior international debut for Germany.

Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on his progress as they aim to reshape their attack for years to come. Their front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will all be 30 by the end of the season.

The impact Diogo Jota has had since joining the club last year proved that competition for the trio is healthy. He has put Firmino’s place in particular under threat. Over time, Liverpool could look for extra reinforcements in that position.

Adeyemi, at the age of 19, would be one for the future. But his form in Austria suggests he could make an impact in the present as well.

Liverpool will thus be battling a number of clubs back in his native Germany to sign him. The likes of Bayern Munich – who used to have him as a youth player and may be his preferred choice – RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund admire him.

There is a feeling that Salzburg will have to let him go in 2022 as his stock rises. They will be keen to get the right price for him, though, after selling Erling Haaland for €20m in 2020 and seeing him go on to become one of the best in the world.

Now, Austrian source ORF has provided some insight into Salzburg’s plans for Adeyemi.

According to their report, Salzburg will want somewhere between €30m and €40m for Adeyemi. However, they are open to his sale and will be willing to let him go for the right offer.

Ideally, they want him to stay for the rest of the season. But they are becoming increasingly aware that it will be hard to stand in his way. The rising interest in him means he may, like Haaland did, leave them in a January transfer window.

Liverpool and Bayern are mentioned as being among the interested clubs. Talks have already taken place with the latter, although nothing has been agreed as of yet. Even so, the Bundesliga champions remain in pole position.

There is still hope for Liverpool to get a deal done, but they must act fast.

Salzburg will hold firm for the right offer, though, knowing that they have Adeyemi under contract until 2024.

Salzburg coach retains Adeyemi hope

Recently, Salzburg boss Matthias Jaissle admitted he is still hopeful that Adeyemi will continue his development in Austria.

“I think our kit suits him very well,” Jaissle told Kicker.

“He still has so much potential, and I hope he continues to develop with us for a while.”

It seems Jaissle’s superiors are already bracing themselves for offers for Adeyemi, though. Some may arrive that would be impossible to turn down.

It is not yet clear if Liverpool think €30-40m is a fair price for the teenager. Their interest remains, though, and will likely continue to as he shows further signs of progress.
