Liverpool told title chances rest entirely with one thing Jurgen Klopp must do

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes Jurgen Klopp must endeavour to do one specific thing more than their rivals if they are to be crowned Premier League champions.

Liverpool sit second in the table after seven matches and remain the league’s only unbeaten team. After an injury-ravaged campaign last year saw their Premier League crown surrendered in tepid fashion, many predict the Reds to be in the thick of the title race when the season concludes.

However, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have splashed the cash in recent windows. Liverpool, in contrast, have been generally kept their powder relatively dry in the market.

That has led to their rivals pushing ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side with regards to squad depth.

And speaking to the Seaman Says podcast (via CaughtOffside), former Liverpool striker Heskey believes the onus is in Klopp more than other managers to ensure his strongest eleven stays fit.

While the injury bug can bite at any time, one way to give players a greater chance of avoiding injury is through rotation.

However, benching the likes of Virgil van Dijk or Mohamed Salah could backfire if results begin to dip.

Nonetheless, Heskey believes Liverpool, more than Manchester City especially, must keep their star players fit.

“The key for Liverpool is can they keep their starting XI fit? If they keep their starting XI fit, this is a title-winning team,” said the former England international.

“This is the fascinating thing with Manchester City. When you take players out of Man City, they still play the same way and I think it’s the only team in the league where you see that and they play the same way.

“You bring [Riyad] Mahrez out, you can put [Phil] Foden out there. Bring Foden out, you can put Raheem [Sterling] out there. Bring out Raheem and you can put [Gabriel] Jesus out there and they still play exactly the same way. They still make exactly the same runs.

“When you take Salah, Mane and Firmino out of the Liverpool team, it looks different and they have to adapt.

“City are the only team that don’t adapt and they play exactly the same way. But again, if Liverpool keep the same starting XI, I think that’s a title-winning team.”

Celtic winger chasing Liverpool move cites Salah

Meanwhile, Celtic winger Liel Abada admits that his ultimate dream is to play for Liverpool and has sent Mo Salah a message in the process.

Abada arrived at Parkhead from Maccabi Petah Tikva over the summer and has featured regularly under new Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou this season. Indeed, the 20-year-old has made an impressive start to life in Glasgow, notching four goals in just six games.

However, Abada knows he still has a long way to go before he can realise his dreams.

He told sport5.co.il: “My dream was and remains to play in England, in one of the teams in the Premier League.

“The biggest dream is Liverpool, but I have to keep working hard at Celtic to prove myself and take it step by step. Should Mo Salah worry? From me? No! He is a super player.”
