Man City connections approach ‘shining’ defensive talent ahead of possible transfer bid
Manchester City connections have been keeping an eye on the development of Boavista defender Jackson Porozo this season, according to reports in Portugal.
The centre-back is only in his second season with the Boavista first team, but has amassed 22 appearances. He has been entrusted with increasing responsibility, such as starting a derby against Porto recently.
Jackson Porozo is just 21 years old and could have a bright future ahead of him. Man City are therefore aware of his talents and how they could integrate him.
According to O Jogo, the current Premier League champions approached Porozo recently. It could prompt a summer link-up.
The report makes it clear that the approach came from City’s business group. Therefore, it would not necessarily be Manchester he moves to. For the time being, the plan may be to use him at one of City’s sister clubs.
The City Group includes Man City, New York City, Melbourne City, Yokohama F. Marinos, Montevideo City Torque, Girona, Sichuan Jiuniu, Mumbai City, Lommel and Troyes.
Impressing at any could lead to a future in the Premier League if things go to plan and he fulfils his potential.
O Jogo are not the first to report of the City Group’s plans for Porozo. Fellow Portuguese outlet A Bola recently claimed they were preparing a €3m offer to acquire his services.
However, Fenerbahce have also been trying to sign the Ecuador international. In the process, they learned that the request is €4.5m.
Fortunately for the City Group, that has put the Turkish side off. However, it is clear that they too will need to up their offer to Boavista, who have him under contract until 2025.
Porozo has started 18 matches in the Portuguese top flight so far this season.
O Jogo write that he “shines” at Boavista and has been one of their “highlights” of the current campaign. They are 13th out of 18 teams in the Primeira Liga at present, but Porozo himself could have a future at a higher level.
Man City eye Serie A defender
Porozo could be one for the long-term future. In the present, City may be looking at a more first-team ready defender.
They already have plenty of options to work with at the back. Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Ake currently share responsibilities at centre-half.
But that has not stopped links with other defenders. For example, City were recently named as contenders for Torino’s Gleison Bremer.
Tuttosport recently said City would be watching Bremer, who is attracting plenty of interest ahead of the summer.
Tottenham are also likely to make an offer for the Brazilian. Other potential suitors include Milan, Inter, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
City have the financial power to be able to win the battle for Bremer. They must be careful not to use up too much of their budget, though, while also pursuing striker Erling Haaland.
