Man City lock horns with familiar foe in transfer battle for Serie A sensation
Manchester City are monitoring AC Milan wing-back Theo Hernandez with a view to a future transfer, according to reports.
Finding a new left-back may well be the missing piece of the puzzle for an already very strong Man City team. It is an area they will look to reinforce in the transfer market in 2022. To that end, Hernandez would be an adequate addition.
The Frenchman has impressed for Milan since joining them from Real Madrid in 2019. It followed a productive loan spell with Real Sociedad and a previous spell with Atletico Madrid’s B team.
In Serie A, Hernandez has established himself as one of the best wing-backs in the league. An attacking threat, he scored 15 goals in all competitions across his first two seasons.
Consequently, he has already been on the radar of a number of big clubs. Of course, he is already at one. But Milan had been something of a fallen giant until they secured Champions League qualification again last season.
Whether they can match Hernandez’s ambition over a more sustained period of time remains to be seen. If not, he could have two transfer temptations.
According to Calciomercato, Man City and Paris Saint-Germain are both admirers of the 23-year-old.
The report provides very little information, not mentioning whether – or when – either club may make a bid. It merely states that they like him and will be observing him in weeks and months to come.
Hernandez has a contract with Milan until 2024, but they would likely be able to make a profit on him were they to sell next year. He only cost them €20m when signing upon the persuasion of club legend Paolo Maldini in 2019.
PSG did reinforce the left-back position with the addition of Nuno Mendes from Sporting CP – who had also been eyed by City – on deadline day. But that was just a loan deal, with an option to buy. It remains to be seen whether they view Hernandez as a permanent successor to the teenager or someone who can compete alongside him in the same squad.
As for City, Benjamin Mendy is currently suspended for legal reasons. Their only other option at left-back is Oleksandr Zinchenko, for whom it is not a natural position anyway. Nathan Ake could also cover there in theory.
However, Hernandez would be a specialist option who could guarantee them quality for years to come.
Agent confirms City tracking wide man
City seem intent on replenishing their wide positions, with one agent recently revealing their interest in a winger he represents too.
Colombia international Emerson Rodriguez currently plays for Millonarios Futbol Club, based in Bogota, Colombia.
Rodriguez’s agent Diego Carannante from MYM Sports Agency has been speaking about some of his clients, including the winger.
In an interview to Fiorentina.it, he was asked whether any of his players were interesting Serie A Fiorentina. And he then revealed that both Man City and Chelsea had been watching the youngster.
Carannante also claimed Everton had been offered another of his players – Genk full-back Daniel Munoz. Neither the Premier League club or the Viola though could get a deal done for Munoz.

“In addition to Munoz, if we talk about right-hand side, I would propose to Fiorentina the profile of Andres Roman of the Millonarios, also called up by the Colombian national team and six months ago one step away from Boca Juniors,” Carannante told Fiorentina.it, via Sport Witness.
“As a winger I would recommend Emerson Rodriguez Rivaldo, a Colombian born in 2001, also owned by the Millonarios of Bogota and already viewed by City and Chelsea.”
Rodriguez is currently out with injury. He has scored three goals and grabbed one assist in 22 Primera A games in 2022.
