Man Utd facing new manager embarrassment with top two targets attracting enticing offers elsewhere

Man Utd could be left-raced in their hunt for their next permanent manager after a report detailed why time is running out to commit to one of their two top targets.

Manchester United will appoint their next permanent manager this summer, and two top targets have emerged. Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag are the current frontrunners, and per the Daily Mail, both are expected to leave PSG and Ajax respectively one way or another this summer.

Ralf Rangnick had harboured hopes of landing the United gig on a permanent basis.

However, the German has failed to break United’s trophy-less streak this season. Worse yet, they may not qualify for next season’s Champions League under his stewardship.

Pochettino and Ten Hag would both fit the mould if United are seeking to rebuild rather than apply a fresh coat of paint.

Pochettino worked wonders at Tottenham, turning the north Londoners from top four hopefuls into genuine contenders for the Premier League and Champions League.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, has dominated in the Netherlands and his style of play would suit the Old Trafford traditions.

Ten Hag was reportedly interviewed for the upcoming Man Utd role on Monday. However, that only led to doubts emerging from both United and the manager’s ends.

Clock ticking on Man Utd manager hunt

Now, the Daily Mail confirm Pochettino held conversations with United director John Murtough a few weeks ago. However, United are now under increasing pressure to make their decision with both targets attracting enticing interest elsewhere.

It’s stated Ten Hag has spoken to two clubs that are regulars in the Champions League. A ‘firm offer’ that ‘interests him’ has already been lodged from one.

Pochettino, meanwhile, could reportedly be the subject of an imminent offer to manage Real Madrid.

Current boss Carlo Ancelotti has Real nine points clear in LaLiga and in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Yet their recent 4-0 humbling at the hands of bitter rivals Barcelona has left his position seriously weakened. If they exit the Champions League to Chelsea in the next round, Florentino Perez won’t hesitate to swing the axe. Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel is another target on their radar.

From United’s perspective, the report stressed the club believe their manager search is progressing at the pace it should. They are mindful of making too strong a move for either target at present given they are both currently employed.

However, United are seemingly now putting themselves at risk of losing out for one – or both – of Ten Hag and Pochettino as interest from elsewhere begins to swell.
