Moyes told how to keep West Ham stars as main suitors for midfielder revealed

Dean Saunders has warned West Ham United that they need to add class to the side in January to convince the likes of Declan Rice to stay at the club.

The Hammers are enjoying another solid campaign and are pushing for a top-six place. They sat fourth in mid December but one win in seven top-flight games has seen them slip back. Rice has been a colossus for the East End outfit, playing every minute of their Premier League campaign to date.

And a price tag in excess of the £100m Manchester City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish has been mooted. Nevertheless, a few clubs have been linked, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and City said to be keen.

A report in November suggested the trio may have already missed the boat over signing the England star. That was because West Ham were matching his ambitions.

However, their current blip and fading top-four hopes may mean the Londoner thinks again about his future. With that in mind, Saunders has warned the London Stadium outfit that they need to act in January.

“The owners have been chucking money at it for a while now,” he told The Sports Bar. When Pellegrini was the manager, they gave him a load of money and that did not work.

“David Moyes, they get him back and he has got a team together now. If I was one of the owners now, I’d be saying: ‘What do you need, David?’.

Chelsea have eyes on Rice

A report by football.london claims Chelsea will push for Rice at the end of the season. The England ace is clearly ambitious and wants to win silverware in what should be a stellar career.

Former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp recently pleaded with the 22-year-old to stay at the club. He told talkSPORT that the Hammers could match his ambitions.

Saunders agrees but the former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker feels David Moyes must take action to keep the squad together.

“West Ham are on the brink of the next step. This is the best team they have had for years and years. They have got really good players,” he added.

“The thing is now, if they do not show the players they are going to take the next step, your best players will leave. If they can see you are trying to win something and going to go forward, the likes of Declan Rice will be saying: ‘I’m happy here’.”
