Newcastle back in for January transfer target but his mind may already be made up

Newcastle are back in the hunt to sign Torino star Andrea Belotti after initially showing an interest during the January transfer window, reports have claimed.

Newcastle are said to have made an offer in January but were unsuccessful. However they have maintained their interest in the striker and a fresh bid could happen. There is no shortage of interest though and the Magpies face a battle.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season. The chances of him staying with Torino look slim and clubs are forming an orderly queue. TuttoMercatoWeb claim that Newcastle are among them.

Newcastle target new striker

Eddie Howe will have a large transfer budget in the summer but free agents will still appeal. Especially those with the quality and experience of Belotti.

The Italian international has made over 200 Serie A appearances for Torino. He has also scored 97 league goals so it is no surprise that rival interest is hot.

Newcastle first made a move back in January. At the time it was suggested they offered him a deal worth £6.6m a year. Belotti rejected it as he was in no rush to decide his next move. But now a decision is imminent.

Belotti is also attracting interest from Tottenham and West Ham. It has been suggested that the Italian connection at Spurs could put them in pole position. Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are at the club and that could sway Belotti.

Spurs are in need of back up for Harry Kane and they see Belotti as the ideal signing. West Ham also have a new striker high on the wanted list.

There is a chance however that all Premier League clubs will miss out. The striker has options to stay in Italy and may prefer to remain in Serie A.

Milan the dream move

Indeed reports have claimed that AC Milan are his dream club and he is holding out for the San Siro. Milan rivals Inter are also keen along with AS Roma, Fiorentina and Atalanta.

Belotti has yet to make a decision on his next move, or at least officially announce it. The Torino president Urbano Cairo believes a deal may already be done. But he is in the dark just like everyone else.

“Belotti expires. He may have already signed with someone. Let’s say that from February 1st he was free to sign, theoretically he could also have done so. Disappointed? I no longer talk about this issue,” Cairo told TuttoMercatoWeb.
