Newcastle hold key to unlock transfer as proposed Chelsea move gets confirmation

The agency behind a Chelsea forward are ‘regularly in contact’ with Newcastle and could give the Magpies a significant boost in their transfer hopes, per a report.

Newcastle United are now the world’s richest club following the Saudi-led takeover by the Public Investment Fund (PIF). While the first change of personnel will likely come in the manager’s office, player turnover is alsmost guaranteed to follow in January,

Predcitably, Newcastle have already been linked with a vast array of talent from across Europe and beyond.

Centre-halves such as Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly are reportedly high on the new owners’ radar. Elsewhere, links with Barcelona misfit Philippe Coutinho continue to surface.

Now, according to German outlet Bild (via Goal), Chelsea striker Timo Werner has moved into their crosshairs.

The 25-year-old’s struggles last season were there for all to see. But despite losing his cutting edge in front of goal, Werner’s all-action displays and 15 assists ensured he always made an impact.

But following the return of Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge, Werner has largely had to play second fiddle. He has been deployed in a two-man frontline on occasion, though Thomas Tuchel’s preferred formation remains 3-4-3.

As such, Bild journalist Christian Falk has confirmed Newcastle’s interest in Werner, simply stating the rumours to be “true”.

However, this particular transfer link may have more meat on the bones than others.

Falk noted that the agency that represents Werner, Sports360 GmbH, already has a client on the books at St. James’ Park – Fabian Schar.

Per Falk, the agency are ‘regularly in contact’ with Newcastle and their intervention could boost the prospective transfer’s chances of success.

Werner’s reduced role is also cited by Goal as another reason why a move could materialise. He also recently admitted his dissatisfaction at his lack of minutes on the pitch.

Nonetheless, a Werner to Newcastle move still feels a long shot at this moment in time.

Robinho, Eto’o or Johnson? Which example will Newcastle follow with their newly acquired wealth?

Man Utd muscle in on Chelsea chase

Meanwhile, Manchester United have revived their interested in centre-back Jules Kounde and are set to rival Chelsea for his signature, claims a report.

Chelsea locked on to the 22-year-old in the summer and looked destined to sign the France international. Sevilla were understood to be asking for €50m and Chelsea lodged their €50m offer in the last week of the August transfer window.

However, Sevilla sporting director Monchi changed his mind. Instead, he demanded the centre-back’s release clause, which stands at €80m. And Sevilla president Jose Castro pointed to the LaLiga club’s strength after rejected Chelsea’s offer.

Now the Spanish outlet report that United could come in with an offer for Kounde, who is under contract until 2024. Chelsea though are unlikely to abort their mission to land Kounde and a January offer has already been mooted.

And The Evening Standard back up claims that Roman Abramovich is ready to back Thomas Tuchel as they pursue Kounde.

The Blues currently stand to lose Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva at the end of the season. All three are out of contract, although Christensen is said to be close to signing a new deal.
