Panic stations for Man Utd, as crucial cog for Solskjaer warms to move after PSG open talks

Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with the entourage of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, who is warming to the move, according to reports.

Pogba is in the final year of his contract at Man Utd and they may have worries about losing him for free for a second time. If they cannot convince him to sign a new contract, which would make him their top earner, they may have to sell. It is still up in the air whether he will accept the new terms or not.

A recent report claimed that not everyone at United is on the same page about Pogba. There are doubts over whether he justifies such a high wage after five years of inconsistency since what was then a world-record transfer.

But the Frenchman has shown his quality in 2021 so far, including at the Euros, where one United legend named him the player of the tournament so far despite being eliminated.

Thus, the attention is now turning to his club future and United have a big decision to make. Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has reportedly asked his club to reunite him with the midfielder.

But an alternative exit route for Pogba would be back to his native France, where he has never played in Ligue 1. High-spending PSG are keen to add him to their team as they look to regain the title following a second-place finish in 2020-21.

Now, there has been progress in their pursuit. According to RMC Sport, negotiations are underway between Pogba’s representatives and the Parisian club.

PSG are studying whether the 28-year-old would be a good addition while talking to his camp. From his side, he is “more and more open to the idea” of joining them.

Thus, United are in a risky position as it now seems one of their big-name players is considering an exit.

There is much optimism around Old Trafford at present; the signing of Jadon Sancho could be followed up by that of Raphael Varane. They have also been linked with Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, which may suggest they are preparing for life after Pogba.

But the 2018 World Cup winner remains one of the best on the planet on his day. Therefore, United will be weighing up all their options as they look to mount a title challenge next season.

Rennes react to Camavinga offer

If United are to sell Pogba, they will need to get more serious in their pursuit of Camavinga.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Rennes will sell for a bargain €30m fee with just 12 months left on his deal.

Romano stated that United are already in contact over a prospective deal. Furthermore, the player will likely choose between the Red Devils and a move to PSG.

However, a fresh update ridiculed claims that United are poised to sign Camavinga and that a fee of €30m would secure the deal.

As per Get French Football News, talk of a United bid for that amount was met with laughter from a source at Rennes.

That would seemingly put an end to talk that Rennes are willing to let Camavinga leave on the cheap. However, his sale does look likely given he now has less than a year to run on his existing deal.
