Paper Talk: Man City fear major blunder, as Harry Kane transfer truth causes star’s big twist; Villa plot record Chelsea bid
Manchester City may have scuppered their plan for a star over his transfer links with Harry Kane, while Aston Villa plan a big Chelsea raid – both in all the latest Paper Talk.
STERLING GETS ANGRY OVER KANE PLAN
Manchester City could have put their plan for Raheem Sterling to sign a new contract in peril by offering him in a deal for Harry Kane, a report claims.
City boss Pep Guardiola has laid plans for another hefty transfer window of spending to mount another Premier League title defence. Speculation over Jack Grealish’s future at Aston Villa intensified on Friday, with reports claiming that Villa are now willing to let their star man go.
As such, City have moved closer to making his move a British transfer record at £100million. Amid the talk over Grealish, though, Kane has long had links with a move to the Etihad Stadium.
With Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy valuing the striker at over £100million, though, City are reportedly considering including Sterling as a makeweight in the deal.
According to the Sunday Mirror, though, Sterling has become ‘angry’ after learning of the development.
Indeed, both the winger and his club were hoping to open talks over a new deal; Sterling had hoped to follow Kevin de Bruyne in increasing his salary.
However, the club’s willingness to sell him for a suitable fee has led the winger to ‘reassess his options’, the newspaper adds.
Sterling ‘now knows’ that City are not truly in contract talks for the right reasons; rather than tying him down as a key player in Pep Guardiola’s team, he is aware that they are instead trying to protect his value.
The 26-year-old was open to a new deal, despite enduring a tough end to the Premier League season. He has brushed off those concerns, though, netting two winning goals for England at Euro 2020 so far.
