Predicted Leeds team to face Leicester City: Jesse Marsch could be boosted by returning star
Following a dismal run of form, the predicted Leeds team to face Leicester City could see the side lifted by a star player coming back into the fold.
The Whites have been in poor form of late, to say the least. Indeed, they have conceded 17 goals in their last four league games; a run that saw coach Marcelo Bielsa sacked.
The worst result in that run was a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool. Leeds also lost 4-0 last game against Tottenham, and had previously been dealt a 4-2 loss by Manchester United.
With Bielsa gone, American Jesse Marsch took control, and he hinted at a return for a star man in his pre-match press conference.
“We’ll evaluate Patrick [Bamford]. Can he be on the bench or does he need a few more days? He’s close,” he said.
Marsch has, though, been dealt a blow in terms of an injury in the defence.
“Diego Llorente was not in training today and he is questionable,” he said.
Last time out – Leeds 0-4 Tottenham
Illan Meslier started in goal, as he has all season, shipping four goals. The defence – which has been chopped and changed often due to injuries – saw Llorente partner Pascal Struijk at centre-back, the latter was hooked at half time.
Luke Ayling played at right-back – one of a couple of positions he has played this season – with Junior Firpo on the left.
Robin Koch returned to the midfield, following a head injury. Ahead of the German were utility man Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw.
The usual wide players of Rapinha and Jack Harrison played, with Daniel James deputising up front.
Predicted Leeds team against Leicester City
Meslier is likely to play in goal. The centre-back partnership could see Ayling move inside to partner Struijk, given Llorente’s injury. Dallas could move to right-back, and Firpo could remain on the left.
Koch could play in holding midfield again, with Forshaw retaining his place, and Mateusz Klich could return.
Raphinha and Harrison could play in the wide areas again, with James up top. Bamford may make an impact on the bench, though Marsch is likely not to risk him from the start.
Predicted Leeds XI: Meslier; Dallas, Ayling, Struijk, Firpo; Koch; Raphinha, Forshaw, Klich, Harrison; James
