Predicted Manchester United team for trip to Everton: Ronaldo boost expected but injuries hinder selections

After a tough run of late, the predicted Manchester United team to face Everton could see Cristiano Ronaldo return to boost his side.

Manchester United have not been in the best of form in recent weeks. Indeed, in their last four games in all competitions, they have only managed to win once.

That win was a 3-2 victory over Tottenham, in which Ronaldo scored a hat-trick. However, United lost the game prior to that 4-1 against Manchester City.

Since the win, they have not fared too well either. Manchester United were knocked out of the Champions League thanks to a 2-1 loss on aggregate against Atletico Madrid.

Ralf Rangnick’s side followed that up with a 1-1 draw with Leicester City. In fact, the Red Devils could have lost that game too, were James Maddison’s winner not ruled out for a foul in the build up.

Ronaldo missed that game due to illness, but is expected to return to face Everton. “Cristiano is back again,” Rangnick said in his pre-match press conference.

United are, however, hindered by the loss of some regular starters. Indeed, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay are all injured, along with Edinson Cavani, according to the manager.

Last time out – Man Utd 1-1 Leicester

Against Leicester, David De Gea started in net, with Harry Maguire and Varane as the centre-back pairing.

Diogo Dalot started at right-back, with Shaw at left-back; he was replaced at half time.

McTominay – who came off in the 55th minute – played in holding midfield alongside Fred, who scored the equaliser.

Anthony Elanga, Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho played in behind the forward.

Bruno Fernandes played up top, in the absence of his compatriot, Ronaldo.

Predicted Man Utd team against Everton

A few changes are likely against Everton, given the injury troubles that Rangnick mentioned.

De Gea is likely to start in net, with Maguire and Victor Lindelof – in the absence of Varane – ahead of him.

Dalot could play at right-back, with Alex Telles coming in at left-back. Pogba could drop into a deeper role to partner Fred.

Elanga and Sancho could remain in the wide positions, with Fernandes dropping back into the no.10 role.

Ronaldo may start up front, given he is ready to return to the fold.

Predicted Manchester United XI: De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Telles; Pogba, Fred; Elanga, Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo
