Pundit believes Levy has perfect Prem replacement lined up for Kane
Tony Cascarino believes that Tottenham could try to sign Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins if they lose Harry Kane this summer.
Kane’s future has been the subject of debate for some time, but the speculation has increased in the past week. Last Monday, reports claimed that the striker has told Spurs that he wants to leave. Meanwhile, in an interview with Gary Neville, he revealed that he plans to speak to chairman Daniel Levy.
He also reportedly informed his employers that he wants to stay in the Premier League. As a result, talk of swap deals with Chelsea and Manchester United has emerged.
Indeed, ex-United full-back Neville believes that United have three players ready to offer Spurs.
Should Kane go, he would prove tough to replace. Nevertheless, Cascarino feels that Villa star Watkins would be a good candidate to step in next season, after his strong campaign.
“I saw him at Exeter a couple of times, and you could see there was a player there,” the pundit told talkSPORT.
“But you could never imagine he’d go from where he was to the England squad in 2021.
“He’s done brilliantly well. He’ll be a target for a few clubs. I think if Tottenham lost Harry [Kane] they could go after him, or at least try.”
Villa made headlines when bringing Watkins in for a club-record fee from Championship club Brentford in September.
However, the striker has proved his doubters wrong, scoring 14 Premier League goals and 16 overall for the season. As a result, he earned a first England call-up in March and could seal a spot at Euro 2020.
Cascarino added: “The biggest standout feature I have for him, you can see there’s a real talent in there with pace and has an eye for a goal.
“He is developing as a centre forward, but I always feel like he’s got a point to prove and every step and every obstacle he’s developed. There’s more to come from Ollie Watkins.”
Kane, meanwhile, proved his worth as one of the world’s best strikers by scooping the Golden Boot on the final day.
He finished with 23 Premier League goals, one ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Spurs’ 4-2 win over Leicester meant that they will play Europa Conference League football next season after finishing seventh.

However, he made a blunt admission about UEFA’s new competition, which sits below the Europa League in prominence.
