Pundit explains why Chelsea already have Prem title next season sewn up

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien says that the Blues will win the Premier League next season under Thomas Tuchel’s guidance.

Tuchel has masterminded a fantastic first few months in charge at Stamford Bridge. His side had dropped off in the Premier League table upon Frank Lampard’s sacking, but are now in a strong position to finish in the top four. Furthermore, Chelsea are in the FA Cup and Champions League finals.

The west Londoners have also enjoyed a largely solid defensive record. They have kept 11 league clean sheets since the German took over in January.

As such, Essien believes that his old club have what it takes to clinch top spot next term. In doing so, they would beat Manchester City, Liverpool and potentially Manchester United to the crown.

“I’m going to say Chelsea win the league next season, based on how good they’ve looked since Thomas Tuchel has taken over,” Essien said (as per the Daily Mirror).

“They’re my first choice for the title, then it’s obviously going to be United, Liverpool and City who will be right up there with them.

“With the players Thomas Tuchel has got at his disposal, I think he’s got all the tools needed to challenge for the title next season

“If you look from the goalkeepers to the forwards, they’ve got big names all over the pitch. They’ve got it all.”

Chelsea had several star players before last summer’s big spending; N’Golo Kante has remained one of the Premier League’s best midfielders, while Cesar Azpilicueta has become a club stalwart.

However, the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell have further added to the Blues‘ squad.

Chilwell has impressed, but Havertz has not yet reached the peak of his powers after suffering from coronavirus earlier in the season. Werner, meanwhile, has begun to find goalscoring form after a barren spell.

According to Essien, though, centre-back Thiago Silva is the standout player in Tuchel’s squad.

The 36-year-old may be an ageing player, but he arrived at Stamford Bridge having become a serial winner with Paris Saint-Germain.

Essien lauds Tuchel’s Chelsea squad

“I love the fact that they’ve got Thiago Silva at the back, his experience really is vital to that team and he’s such a great name the younger players in the squad can learn from,” the ex-midfielder added.

“He commands the back line very well. But even without him, they’ve got Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen, so they’re very strong in that area.”

Reports claim that Chelsea are gearing up for another summer of strong spending. A firm new No. 9 is supposedly on Tuchel’s radar.
