Pundit urges outcast to leave Chelsea, with two clubs among ‘many takers’

Former England striker Gabriel Agbonlahor feels Tammy Abraham will be leaving Chelsea this summer and has many clubs ready to sign him up.

Abraham, 23, has fallen down the Stamford Bridge pecking order since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard at the helm. He has made 12 starts among 22 Premier League appearances this term but the majority of those came prior to the German arriving. And the man with six England caps even bagged a hat-trick in the FA Cup against Luton Town just before Tuchel’s appointment.

The Londoner has been used sparingly in recent weeks, prompting speculation of a summer exit. He missed out on a place in the FA Cup final but last week the boss refused to be drawn on his future in west London.

Agbonlahor has had his say on the matter and believes a parting of the ways is the best thing for all concerned.

“I think the manager’s made it quite clear in leaving him out that he doesn’t fancy him so he’ll want him to leave,” he told Sky Sports. “As a player, he’s a player who looks like he wants to play football, play the number nine role and be the main striker at a club so he should want to leave for himself.”

West Ham have already been linked with striker but may struggle to match his £40m price tag. Hammers boss David Moyes is thought to have a back-up plan of taking him on loan.

But it is not known if Chelsea would play ball with that idea. Abraham has spent time on loan at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa.

And former Villa ace Agbonlahor is adamant that he will not be short of suitors, with his previous club an option.

“There’ll be many takers – West Ham, Aston Villa – so many takers where he can go and start Premier League [matches].”

Villa ‘prepare’ Abraham bid

Abraham will want to join a club where he is guaranteed a regular first-team berth. A lack of action means he is unlikely to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s delayed Euro 2020.

Villa seem a creditable option and are said to have put aside a large chunk of their summer budget for the forward. It remains to be seen if they firm up their interest with a bid but Dean Smith will want a new striker before next season.

Ollie Watkins is the West Midlanders number one striker and Abraham would add further class to the squad.
