Real Madrid plot ‘first-class’ Man Utd raid after making ‘difficult’ decision to sell long-serving star
Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot is a transfer target for Real Madrid as they prepare to sell Dani Carvajal this summer, according to a report.
Carvajal has proved a mainstay in the team throughout Madrid’s illustrious period in the past nine years. Indeed, he has picked up four Champions League winners’ medals amongst 17 major trophies since his 2013 arrival.
However, in the past two seasons especially, he has suffered from a host of injury problems. Last term, a hamstring injury Carvajal miss 12 games and he has already had three separate spells out this campaign.
As a result, El Nacional reports that Madrid have made the ‘difficult’ decision to sell the 30-year-old this summer. The Spain international only signed a new deal last summer and that runs until 2025.
However, Los Blancos chiefs have become frustrated with his continued injury struggles. They feel that by selling him now, they can still get a decent fee before his value continues to depreciate.
Lucas Vazquez is the current stand-in for Carvajal and he has featured in 11 of Real’s last 15 matches.
But as for a new signing at right-back, El Nacional claims that Man Utd‘s Portugal international Dalot is on Madrid’s radar on their mission to get a ‘first-class’ player in. The 22-year-old has struggled for minutes for most of his Old Trafford career following his 2018 arrival under Jose Mourinho.
In fact, Mourinho got the sack and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Englishman forced Dalot out of the team and out on loan to AC Milan last season.
Dalot not only Real Madrid target
However, he has won his place back under interim boss Ralf Rangnick and amid Wan-Bissaka’s drop in form. El Nacional therefore admits it will prove ‘difficult’ to sign Dalot from United. Dalot was in fact a target for Atletico Madrid in January.
Madrid are subsequently looking at Norwich’s Max Aarons. The England Under-21 international has proved a standout star for Norwich following his breakthrough, making 156 outings for the Canaries at 22.
But Madrid’s top target is Sporting’s on-loan Manchester City full-back Pedro Porro. The Spaniard, also 22, is in the second season of a two-year loan from City and has impressed.
He capped off his first season in Portugal by making his Spain debut in March. This term, meanwhile, Porro has contributed four goals and four assists in 24 outings.
El Nacional claims that the full-back is now worth over €20million (£16.5million). Although, previous reports have revealed that Sporting expect to use a £7million clause to sign him Porro permanently this summer.
Man Utd man facing crossroads
Back at Man Utd, Dalot has remained on the bench for each of United’s last three matches.
Before those fixtures, though, he played all of the last eight games. He has won his place back in the team, but his future beyond this season remains unclear.
Dalot’s contract runs out at the end of next season and United are planning to replace Rangnick with a new permanent manager for this summer’s transfer window.
The full-back is reportedly in line for a new deal following his recent rise. However, his future will ultimately rest on the new manager’s assessment of the squad at Old Trafford.
