Recent Newcastle United arrival pledges to ‘write his name’ in club’s history books
Newcastle United January signing Bruno Guimaraes has revealed he wants to ‘write his name’ in the club’s history books, as the Magpies eye success following their big-money takeover.
Eddie Howe brought in several players during the winter window to bolster his ranks. Brazil midfielder Guimaraes was among them, arriving in a £40million deal from Lyon.
He made his Newcastle debut on February 8, coming on for a late cameo in the 3-1 victory over Everton.
Howe slowly eased the 24-year-old in from that point. He was given a few more substitute appearances before playing a full 90 minutes in 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.
The week before, Guimaraes hit his first Newcastle goal to help the Magpies gain three points at Southampton.
Guimaraes is already a fan favourite at St James’ Park and is likely to have a great future in the north east. His signing could be the catalyst for their new era, with more big-name arrivals expected in the summer.
The midfielder helped Brazil to win gold at the Tokyo Olympics last year. And he enjoyed a top-class international break, registering assists in consecutive 4-0 wins and scoring against Bolivia.
Guimaraes was asked about this goal, as well as his time at Newcastle, during an interview with Brazilian outlet Globo (via Sport Witness).

The star said: “The feeling is unique. It was for my son or my daughter, I don’t know which one it will be, but I’m happy to share it with good people, who cheer for me.
“The goal is the highest point of a player’s career, even more so the first with the national team shirt. If I could, I would frame the goal, it was very beautiful and it was my first.
“I’m very happy, I hope more goals and good performances can come with the national team shirt. Without a doubt, today I fulfilled another childhood dream.”
On Newcastle, he added: “The game is much more dynamic, at a much higher intensity, here I had time to think, this helped me a lot.
“English football is the most competitive in the world, it’s a game where you have to be very connected.
“Here, when you have more time to think, it helps a lot. English football is a place I always wanted to be, I never hid it from anyone.
“Newcastle gave me this opportunity with a big project. I hope to write my name there too.”
