Report: Arsenal hold genuine interest in English attacker strengthen offensive options

According to Football London, Arsenal are now showing a very genuine interest in bringing the 25-year-old England international Anthony Gordon to the Emirates Stadium.

While recent headlines have heavily linked Newcastle United’s electric winger Gordon with a blockbuster move to Bayern Munich, the mood in North London suggests Mikel Arteta isn’t about to let the German giants have a free run.

It’s no secret that Arsenal are looking to ruthlessly upgrade their forward line this summer.

Despite huge investments in recent windows, the hierarchy, led by manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta, reportedly feel the left-wing position desperately needs a fresh, dynamic injection of pace and creativity.

Arsenal want more attacking depth on left-wing

Although Arteta already has the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard battling for minutes on that left flank, the feeling behind the scenes is that the club wants to aggressively refresh that area to continually challenge for the game’s biggest prizes.

Gordon perfectly fits the profile of a relentless, hard-working wide player who can thrive in Arsenal’s high-pressing system.

However, prying him away from St. James’ Park is going to require some serious cash.

Newcastle are reportedly open to negotiations and are prepared to sell their prized asset to fund their own necessary summer rebuild after an inconsistent campaign.

The Magpies have firmly slapped a £75 million asking price on Gordon, whose current contract comfortably runs all the way until the summer of 2030.

That lengthy contract puts Newcastle in a very strong negotiating position, meaning they are under no immediate pressure to accept a lowball offer.

Gunners face battle to sign the Newcastle United star

Bayern Munich remain the clear frontrunners for his signature, with the tantalising prospect of Gordon linking up with his England teammate Harry Kane in the Bundesliga proving to be a massive draw.

Gordon is reportedly very open to the idea of a move to the Allianz Arena to ensure he continues playing Champions League football.

There is also Liverpool in the conversation for the Premier League attacker, who are looking to replace Mohamed Salah in the summer transfer window and Gordon is a name on their shortlist.

If Arsenal truly want to secure Arteta’s required offensive upgrades, they are going to have to act decisively and open the checkbook.

With Bayern Munich circling and Newcastle demanding top money, the battle for Gordon will be intense in the summer.
