Report details transfer plan with Wolves, Palace lining up Championship star
Online outlet Football League World has provided an update on the future of John Swift.
The 26-year-old has started the campaign in brilliant fashion, scoring seven goals and registering five assists in just 11 Championship games. That tally is even more impressive when you consider the fact he plays in central midfield.
It’s no surprise that Premier League teams have been alerted to his situation. Swift is high in confidence at the moment and could adapt quickly to life in the top flight.
Wolves and Crystal Palace are known to be interested, alongside Burnley and Norwich City.
They all view the Englishman as a great option to improve their respective midfields.
Football League World write that Swift could be on the move in January following recent developments. Reading face a six-point deduction after breaching the EFL’s profit and sustainability regulations.
Such a fine would badly affect their hopes of getting back into the Premier League. It could also force Swift to go in search of a new challenge at a higher level.
The Royals were hoping to offer him a new deal as his current contract expires in June. But with promotion now far from guaranteed, there are growing concerns that Swift could reject an extension.
The report claims that Wolves, Palace, Burnley and Norwich are hoping to capitalise on the situation. They are planning to launch January bids which would give Reading one last chance to cash in.
Such a move would also prevent a summer scramble once Swift potentially becomes a free agent.
The Premier League sides will continue to monitor Swift in the mean time. The midfielder will be hoping to continue his great form when Reading host Barnsley after the international break.

Wolves man tipped for early return
Morgan Gibbs-White left Molineux in the summer to gain more first-team experience. He opted to join Slavisa Jokanovic’s promotion-chasing Sheffield United.
The loanee has enjoyed a brilliant start, scoring against Peterborough, Preston and Bournemouth.
However, those at Bramall Lane fear that he could end up doing too well. Sheffield Star journalist Alan Biggs claims that Wolves might consider recalling the attacking midfielder in January.
They did just that in 2020 when he was on loan at Swansea City. Gibbs-White would spend most of the rest of the season on the bench after failing to impress Nuno Espirito Santo.
