Report names seven stars Man Utd will sell to fund stunning £166m double raid

Manchester United will reportedly prioritise an extraordinary £180m double raid on Borussia Dortmund next summer – and will offload up to seven stars to ensure they get the deal done.

The summer of 2021 is one that won’t be forgotten in some time with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi securing transfers. However, attention is already turning to Erling Haaland, one man seen as a likely heir to their throne as the world’s top stars.

The 21-year-old, alongside Kylian Mbappe, is one of the brightest talents in world football. His 66 goal return in 66 games for Borussia Dortmund has got just about every big club in Europe interested in him.

It looked at one stage as though BVB would sell the Norway striker this summer. But any deal soon faded with Dortmund under no pressure to sell once Jadon Sancho’s £73m transfer to United went through.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Sport1 in May: “Erling Haaland will remain a BVB player next year.”

The striker does, however, have a £66m exit clause that comes into play in summer 2022 – and a move looks a certainty.

And with Edinson Cavani likely to move on next summer, United will likely be firmly in the race to sign the Norwegian.

However, as per the Independent, he won’t be the only Dortmund star subject to a summer approach from United. They claim the Red Devils are also readying an approach for his teammate Jude Bellingham.

And while the teenager’s transfer valuation is placed at £100m, it’s reported United will have no qualms handing BVB £166m for the pair.

Furthermore, to help fund the deal, the Daily Express claims United could offload up to seven unwanted players.

They state the players first to leave will be strikers Cavani and Anthony Martial.

Cavani will be a free agent come next summer so securing a fee for him looks unlikely. However, Martial remains under contract until 2024 and his sale will generate sizeable funds.

There will also likely be departures from the midfield area too to accommodate Bellingham. As per the report, Nemanja Matic, Donny van de Beek and Andreas Perreira will also be made available.

The club could also look to cash in on Jesse Lingard too. And while talks are ongoing over a new deal, he still looks a saleable asset. Indeed, talks over a new contract are seemingly just a way of protecting United’s valuation of the player.

However, should no agreement be reached, a January transfer remains a possibility for the England man.

And finally, United will also likely move on defender Eric Bailly. He’s another who recently signed a new deal. However, he remains some way down Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order with Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof all ahead of him.

The potential exits of the septet would not only raise serious transfer funds. It would also hugely clear off some of United’s enormous weekly wage bill. Cavani, Matic, Martial and Lingard all reportedly earn in excess of £100,000 each a week. And their exits alone would seriously boost the United coffers.

Cavani ‘reveals true feelings’ on United stay

Meanwhile, a report has revealed Cavani’s true feelings about staying at United in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo’s return.

The Portuguese superstar has soon shown what he’s about with three goals in two games. To make matters worse, he even took the No 7 shirt off his back. Ronaldo though was quick to thank the Uruguayan and it seems it was a gesture done with the latter’s blessing.

That has led to fresh speculation that Cavani could seek an exit from Old Trafford in January.

ESPN Brasil, though, insists that’s far from the case. They state Cavani does ‘not feel intimidated’ by Ronaldo’s return. Furthermore, they state there is a confidence from Cavani that he will ‘soon be back in the United side’.

They state that, having competed with Luis Suarez, Kylian Mbappe, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Neymar for a place in the past, he sees no reason why he cannot also ‘cannot play alongside Ronaldo’.

The report concludes that Cavani will definitely stay at United over the winter months and fully intends to honour his contract.

However, with his deal expiring in June, all signs point towards a summer 2022 exit for the player. The 34-year-old currently has 17 goals in 40 appearances for United.
