“Tottenham are going really strong for him”: Fabrizio Romano drops big Spurs managerial update

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham are pushing hard to convince Roberto De Zerbi to become their next permanent manager.

Following the official departure of Igor Tudor, Spurs are reportedly working around the clock to land the Italian tactician, who has been the club’s “dream target” since he left Marseille in February.

The North London club is currently in a state of emergency, sitting just one point above the Premier League relegation zone with only seven games remaining.

Fabrizio Romano drops Roberto De Zerbi update

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that while De Zerbi is interested in the Tottenham project, he may prefer to wait and see the club’s Premier League status by the end of the season before making a decision.

“My understanding is that the dream of Tottenham remains Roberto De Zerbi,” Romano said.

“The point is that Roberto’s original idea has always been to consider the Tottenham job in the summer.

He wanted to wait for the end of the season to understand what kind of opportunity was going to be the best for his future.”

However, Romano noted that Spurs are not taking “no” for an answer. “Tottenham are going really strong for him. Let’s see if they find a way to convince him. If there is even a 1% chance to get him now, they want to try.”

Tottenham to opt for another short-term manager if they fail to land De Zerbi

If Tottenham fail to convince De Zerbi to join a relegation dogfight immediately, the club is prepared to turn to another short-term manager for now.

As per Romano, Sean Dyche has been discussed for the role as well as some other managers.

The former Everton and Burnley boss has the experience of these high-pressure relegation battles.

For the permanent role, if De Zerbi doesn’t join, Mauricio Pochettino remains a romantic option for a permanent return.

Currently in charge of the USMNT, Pochettino is reportedly open to returning to North London regardless of their league status, but he would only be available after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup this summer.
