Tottenham plan swoop for Leeds United star who would be perfect for Antonio Conte’s system

Tottenham are planning a swoop for Leeds United winger Jack Harrison in the summer as boss Antonio Conte sees him as the ideal fit for his system.

Spurs were linked with a move in the January transfer window but a deal did not happen. Conte has maintained an interest though and reports claim a move could be resurrected in the summer. Leeds will be bracing themselves for an offer if the Telegraph are correct.

The 25-year-old had an outstanding 2020/21 season while on loan from Manchester City. He went on to score eight goals that season and provided another eight assists.

After three seasons of loan deals, Leeds snapped him up permanently for £11m last summer. And it could prove to be a snip.

Pirlo recommendation

It has been suggested that Harrison has suffered a dip in form this season. However he has still chipped in with seven goals and two assists from 30 appearances. He grabbed a stunning hat-trick in the 3-2 win over West Ham and Spurs have been impressed.

Tottenham have also been urged to make a move by Italian legend Andrea Pirlo. The former Juventus playmaker knows Harrison well from his time in Major League Soccer with New York City FC.

Harrison shone when scoring 14 goals in 55 appearances and left a lasting impression on Pirlo. The report says he has recommended Harrison to Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici. Such a glowing reference from an Italian icon will be hard for Paratici to ignore.

Conte would also like to get Harrison on board as he believes he would fit into his system. He can play left-wing or left-wing-back and would give Conte plenty of options.

The Italian tactician was keen on Adama Traore in the January transfer window. The Wolves star ended up moving to Barcelona on loan for the rest of the season. That deal could be revisited, but Harrison is another option down the other flank.

Tottenham to test resolve

The report claims if Harrison does arrive it could spell the end of Ryan Sessegnon. The former Fulham star has had injury issues and Conte could move him on.

Leeds will of course be keen to keep hold of Harrison and do have some security. The player is under contract until the end of 2024 so the pressure is off.

Even so their resolve could be tested at the end of the season if Spurs do make a bid. However it surely would take a lot more than the £13.5m fee that has been mentioned.
