Tottenham preparing Brendan Rodgers move but only on one condition

Tottenham will reportedly make their move for Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers this summer, but only on one condition.

Rodgers has done a brilliant job at the King Power, turning the Foxes into regular Champions League contenders. They also won the FA Cup for the first time in their history when they beat Chelsea in the final at Wembley last weekend thanks to a stunning Youri Tielemans strike.

But despite spending more time in the top four than any other side this season, Leicester dropped out after the penultimate game of the season.

The Foxes’ loss at Chelsea, coupled with Liverpool’s victory over Burnley means Rodgers’ men are now fifth. Leicester are level on points with Jurgen Klopp’s side but have a four-goal inferior goal difference. They host Spurs on the final day of the campaign, while Liverpool will take on Crystal Palace.

And according to a report in The Sun, Tottenham will move for Rodgers if the Foxes miss out on the Champions League.

The fact that Spurs could play a part in Leicester’s misfortune is purely coincidental, while the north London club are also trying to secure a Europa League spot for themselves.

Rodgers has previously stated how happy he is at the King Power. However, if Leicester fail to seal that top-four spot he could be lured to a club with greater resources.

The opportunity to turn Spurs into challengers and trophy winners again may be too good to turn down. A bump in his salary would also be expected in north London, although Rodgers clearly has a great relationship with the Leicester owners, who would make a big play to keep him.

Rodgers is not the only boss on Tottenham’s radar, with Brighton’s Graham Potter and Fulham’s Scott Parker also linked. A new name also emerged on Thursday in the form of Borussia Dortmund interim manager Edin Terzic.

Daniel Levy is expected to make a decision on the club’s next boss over the coming weeks. Temporary boss Ryan Mason will then return to his role as head of player development.

Tottenham in running to land Cakir

Meanwhile, Tottenham are one of the leading contenders for the signature of Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to a report.

Spurs are having to consider their options in goal for next season. Captain Hugo Lloris is about to enter the final year of his contract and has been linked with a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain. If he leaves, they will need to find a suitable replacement.

Lloris’ gloves will be tough to fill after the service he has given the club. But it could be time for them to move on for a longer-term option.

According to NTV Spor, one option could be Cakir, who has impressed in recent years with Trabzonspor.

Cakir came through the Super Lig side’s youth ranks and has been their first choice since the 2018-19 season. He has grown in the role and has since earned five caps for Turkey.

He has been linked with a move to the Premier League for quite some time. Liverpool are often mentioned as potential suitors, for example.

Time is right for Cakir move

Now 25 years old, the time may be right for him to take the next step in his career. He has plenty of years ahead of him but will be keen to spend his best ones on as big a stage as possible.

As such, Tottenham could be an ideal destination. The timing seems to suit all parties.

Trabzonspor do not want to let their key man, who is still under contract until 2024, go for a small sum. NTV claim they will demand at least €20m, with a 25 per cent sell-on clause.

The club have promised they will sell Cakir to the highest bidder, so Tottenham will have to fend off competition to get their man. The report also adds that Inter Milan and Lille are keen.
