Tottenham urged to beat Chelsea, Leicester to £17m starlet amid Harry Kane verdict

Tottenham have been told to beat Chelsea and Leicester to the signing of teenage attacker Mohamed-Ali Cho, amid a claim about Harry Kane.

Cho burst onto the scene with French club Angers at the start of the campaign, getting on the scoresheet in Ligue 1 victories over Rennes and Metz. The goals have since dried up for him, but the centre-forward remains a highly rated talent.

Chelsea were the first major club to put their name down for his services. Borussia Dortmund soon came in to rival them and were reportedly close to agreeing a €20million (£17m) deal.

To make the transfer race more intriguing, Tottenham and Leicester are now in the mix to land the France U21 starlet.

According to Football Insider reporter Pete O’Rourke, Spurs are in talks with Angers over his potential move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This would help to soften the blow somewhat after several failed approaches this month.

Former Spurs star Alan Hutton has now urged Antonio Conte’s side to capture Cho. The pundit also gave his verdict on first-choice striker Harry Kane.

Mohamed-Ali Cho is ideal Spurs signing – Hutton

“This is exactly the type of signing they have to make when looking for a striker,” Hutton said during an interview with Football Insider.

“When you think about it, trying to sign a top striker and telling him he will be second fiddle to Kane – it’s very difficult to get someone in.

“But if you’ve got someone who is only 18 with bags of potential, there’s a big opportunity for him. He can get some minutes but most importantly learn from the likes of Kane and become that top, top player.

“That’s what Tottenham have to aim for. Antonio Conte only plays with the one striker, so there’s no real need to bring two in.”

Mohamed-Ali Cho has previous in England, having spent several years in the Everton academy before leaving for Angers in January 2020.

He gained promotion to the French team’s senior squad that summer and has gone on to feature 42 times, scoring twice.

Tottenham pursuit officially over

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s hopes of signing Adama Traore from Wolves are officially over following the winger’s return to Barcelona.

Antonio Conte is a fan of the pacy 26-year-old. He had been hoping to take him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Italian was planning to make him a wing-back on the right flank, replacing Emerson Royal.

Spurs were closing in on a deal to sign Traore earlier this week, only for Barcelona to muscle in.

And the Spanish club have now announced Traore’s arrival, with the Spain international returning to the club where he came through the ranks.

He has joined Barca on a six-month loan deal. They have the option to make his move permanent for £30million in the summer.

Traore only made four appearances in the Blaugrana’s senior squad during his first spell in Catalonia. He will be aiming for a much better impact this time around.

Traore was in the final 18 months of his Wolves contract, which prompted the exit links to start last year.

The Molineux club had begun preliminary talks over an extension but did not manage to tie the player down.
